Vista do Sky Terrace

A vista do 360º Restaurant!!!

Ainda no Sky Pod…

No Ferry Boat

Chegando na Centre Island

Ah!

No Píer do Lake Ontário

No Jardim do Franklin

E contemplando o Pôr do sol

4 – Royal Ontario Museum (ROM)

Royal Ontario Museum (ROM)

Visitando o Egito Antigo do ROM

Canadian Waters
O Amor no Aquário

No Ray-Bay

O Estádio do Rogers Centre

Outro Camarote Super Top do Estádio

8 – Letreiro e Toronto City Hall

Vale a pena a visita tanto durante o dia, quanto à noite!!! Depois me fala qual você preferiu…

9 – Toronto Eaton Centre/ Path/ Dundas Square

Toronto Eaton Centre

Vale a pena conhecer tanto durante o dia quanto à noite.

Toronto’s Top 10

Have you ever imagined walking late into the night with your cell phone in hand, or during the day, on the way to work or school, going through beautiful squares, beautiful buildings and clean streets, all in the middle of the metropolis? I know that your curiosity is on fire to know what this place is. But wait, I’ll tell you: I’m talking about Toronto!!! Canada’s most cosmopolitan city (and one of the safest in America), as well as being the capital of the province of Ontario!!!

Like me, I am sure that you will be enchanted by Toronto and other cities on the east coast of Canada that I had the opportunity to meet and I will show you in detail, but I will share the posts so as not to be too long a story.

And to start, I invite you to join me in the Toronto’s Top 10: the top 10 tourist attractions you need to know in Toronto if you are going to stay for a short time. But wait, other posts will come, telling more details and all the best that this city has to offer us.

Shall we start our tour?

1 – CN Tower

When talking about Toronto, one of the first images that comes to mind is her: the beautiful, powerful and absolute CN TOWER !!! This famous Toronto Tower is 553.33m high and is the third largest tower in the world (the 1st is Tokyo SkyTree in Japan with 634m and the 2nd is the Canton of China Tower with 595.7m). The CN Tower was built in 40 months and opened in 1976, being the largest tower in the world until 2010.

The CN initials refer to the Canadian National which was the railway company that built the tower to be part of the large Metro Centre railway station and the tower rented its antennas for signal transmission from the beginning. What happens today is being used a lot for telecommunications.

To up the tower you have several options to buy the ticket: at the ticket office; through the website: https://tickets.cntower.ca/webstore/shop/viewItems.aspx?cg=TIX&c=GA&Language=1 , the citypass that entitles you to up the Tower and four other attractions in Toronto with a discount: https://pt.citypass.com/toronto and also our option that was the dinner reservation at the 360º Restaurant (https://www.cntower.ca/en-ca/360-restaurant/reservations-and-menus.html ) that can be done on the website and ensures that you get a spot to enjoy the incredible 360º view of the CN and savor delicious gourmet food, as well as direct (skip the line) access to the Tower.

CN Tower works daily from 9 am to 10:30 pm, closing only at Christmas, so you can choose the best time within your itinerary to visit it, but I suggest you go later in the afternoon, so you have the day view and night of the tower, in addition to the beautiful sunset.

The charm of the ascent to the CN Tower, begins with the elevator that reaches the main floor in 58 seconds, that’s right, less than 1 minute to go up!!! Once there you can go directly to the restaurant (if you have made the reservation) and then go to the observation levels. Or go straight to the visitation.

We went to the restaurant, but as it was not our time yet and there were no tables near the window, we made an appointment later and went to observe the view.

We start with the Main Observation Level¸ which is the main observation level at 346m/1,136 feet high with glass walls throughout the floor and which provides us with incredible views of the whole city and the sunset seen from the CN Tower gains a very special charm. I filmed and posted on our Youtube channel so you can get an idea of how beautiful it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hq0BpuO4Fag

Enchanted by the CN Tower Main Observation Level view

With this incredible sunset

And it is also on this floor that the Glass Floor is located: the glass floor on which you can walk and have this privileged view of the Ripley’s Aquarium at your feet.

Descending one level, you will reach the Outdoor Observation Level, also known as SkyTerrace, which is at a height of 342m/1,122 feet, has a protection grid, but it is outdoors and allows us to feel the Toronto breeze from above. When we went down to that floor it was already dark and it was possible to contemplate all the beauty of the illuminated city!!!! Just take a look at this video I posted on our Youtube channel to see how charming it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AGIyKMs04Qo

Sky Terrace View

Still with the beauty of Toronto Illumination, we went up two more levels because our dinner reservation time was arriving at the 360º Restaurant, the CN Tower’s Rotating Restaurant. I can tell you that it is a unique experience and worth including in your script. In addition to the delicious food prepared by renowned chefs, you will be savoring the wonderful 360º view of the city that lasts approximately one hour for a complete tour.

360º – The CN Tower’s Rotating Restaurant

The 360º Restaurant menu has a fixed price (ranging from CAD$ 65 to CAD$ 79, including the starter and main course and the second value also includes dessert – drinks are paid separately) and has a vegetarian option!!! Ah! The tip is not included in the bill, so remember to add the amount (from 10% to 20% of the bill), otherwise they will be very upset and will ask you that went wrong so you don’t want to pay the tip.

Wonderful dinner at the 360º Restaurant
The 360º Restaurant View

More information about the 360º Restaurant and the menu is available on the website: https://www.cntower.ca/en-ca/360-restaurant/overview.html . And if you like wine you will love to know that the 360º Restaurant winery entered the Guinness Book as the Highest Wine Cellar in the world at 351m in height.

Look at the Wine Cellar on the left side…

Do you think the visit ends here? Not yet!!! We were saving the icing on the cake to reward our night: the ascent to SkyPod, the highest observation level of the CN Tower: 447m / 1,465 ft high with this spectacular view of the city. Access to this level is paid separately and costs 15 Canadian dollars. To get an idea of how wonderful it is, just take a look at our YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m2V_NUYED3o

On SkyPod – CN Tower’s highest level of observation
What a lovely sight…

The CN Tower has beautiful lighting at night. The change of colors makes it much more charming and charming !!! Ah! And if you like adventure and adrenaline you still have one more option to enjoy the Tower, doing the Edge Walk, which is a walk outside the tower, secured by safety equipment and hands free. This time I didn’t have the opportunity to do this hike, but it’s already on my list for the next visit to Toronto. To find out more details just take a look at the site: https://www.cntower.ca/en-ca/plan-your-visit/tickets/edgewalk.html

2 – Toronto Islands

Toronto Islands

Other place I really liked to visit in Toronto was the Toronto Islands, which as the name says are islands that are in Lake Ontario, which can be accessed via the Ferry Boat (which departs every 20 minutes from the Jack Layton Ferry Terminal – located between Bay Street and Yonge Street- and costs CAD$ 8.19 for adults (with discount for children, seniors and students) and this value entitles you to the return trip) and also through Water Taxi , but the round trip is charged separately (but as I chose the Ferry Boat I don’t know how much it costs).

On the Ferry Boat
Arriving in the Centre Island

Ah! It is important to pay attention when embarking to Toronto Islands to find out the right island you want to go to, because the ferries leave for several islands (including the nudist island that is further away)! To find out more about the Ferry Boat just look at the website: https://www.torontoisland.com/ferry.php. My sister and I went to Centre Island, which is Central Island and the biggest one. I’ll show you the photo of the island’s map just so you can get an idea of its size and you can already get one of these as soon as you arrive on the island.

Centre Island Map
On the Centre Island…

Centre Island is the most popular island and receives more visitors due to the number of attractions it offers, such as a Small Farm with ponies, llamas, among other animals; Centerville Amusement Park, which is an amusement park for children to enjoy and has a cable car for adults to enjoy the view of the island from above. Entrance to the island is free, but to play in this park you need to buy tickets on the island itself.

My Sister Ane and the Centre Island Pony

Center Island is quite large, so get ready to walk through beautiful gardens and fountains as you explore the territory and see several Maple Trees, the leaf of which is the flag of Canada.

In the Gardens…
Of the Centre Island!!!

With the map in hand and following the signs, we arrived at the Pier to have this beautiful view of Lake Ontario and visit Chelsea Beach, which is one of the beaches on the island, where Canadians have fun in the summer. And as you know me, you know that I couldn’t miss the opportunity to get my foot wet in the water.

At Lake Ontario Pier…
With my foot on Lake Ontario

It was on Centre Island that we had the opportunity to try the Beaver Tails, but don’t worry that the name only refers to the shape of the candy that really looks like the beaver’s tail. This sweet remembers the dough of donuts, with the topping of several flavors, I chose Vanilla with Maple Syrup. It was very good!!! As for food on the island, there are several snack bars, but if you prefer you can take your meal and have a picnic.

As Center Island has a long extension, you can rent bikes to explore it better, so we rented this bike (my sister was in the driving seat and I was in the GPS function in charge of viewing the map – imagine the danger … .rsrs) and we went for a walk.

But everything went well, we know the Church of St Andrews, the Gibraltar Lighthouse, which is the oldest lighthouse on the Lake, built in 1808, and is reputed to be haunted by the ghost of JP Rademueller, who took care of the Lighthouse and was murdered and say that his screams can be heard all over the island on the nights of the full moon of summer…

St Andrews Church
Gibraltar Lighthouse

But calm down, there is a lot of happy things to see on the island like these beautiful Squirrels that run around and it takes a lot of work to get a photo.

And also Franklin Children’s Garden, which is very educational for children, and the William Meany Maze, which is a fun maze, among many other attractions.

In Franklin Children’s Garden
Detail of Butterfly in Franklin Children’s Garden

Centre Island is really charming, it doesn’t make you want to leave, but we had to come back early because of an appointment. However, if you have time, it is worth waiting to see the island’s sunset (on the beach part Chelsea Beach is one of the most privileged places in the view). We managed to see from the boat, returning to Downton, which was also beautiful!!!

Returning from Toronto Island…
And watching this beautiful sunset

More information about the island is at: https://www.torontoisland.com/center.php . And the return on the boat provided us with this beautiful landscape of Downtown Toronto!!

3 – Casa Loma

Have you ever imagined being able to visit a Castle in a bustling metropolis like Toronto? Yes, this is possible, I want to introduce you now to Casa Loma, which is a beautiful Castle that has become a museum and is one of the main tourist attractions in the city.

Its construction took place between 1911 and 1914 and was designed by the architect E.L.Lennox in Edwardian style to be the luxurious residence of Sir Henry Pellatt and his wife Lady Mary. However, they only managed to enjoy the Casa Loma for less than 10 years, due to financial problems and the great post-war crisis, Mr. Pellat was totally indebted and had his Castle confiscated in 1924.

After that, Casa Loma became a luxury hotel, night club, went into decay, was invaded by homeless people and even its demolition was considered. Luckily, in 1937 it was leased by the Toronto Kiwanis Club with a commitment to restore it and turn it into a tourist attraction as it did and remained until 2011, when Casa Loma Corporation was formed and became the exclusive property of the City from Toronto. More details about the House are on the website: https://casaloma.ca/

Entrance to Casa Loma…
Charm from arrival

Casa Loma consists of four floors (lower level, main floor, 2nd and 3rd floors), a large tunnel that leads to the stables and two more Gothic towers. As soon as we entered the House, on the main floor we came across this beautiful room, called The Great Hall plus the Oak and Smoke Rooms, the latter together with the Billiard Room were only frequented by men.

Details of The Great Hall and The Library

Also on this main floor are Mr. Henry’s Studio, the Serving Room (for common meals) and the Dining Room (for special meals), the Library (which had tables decorated for a Wedding party) among others rooms .

And from that floor you have access to the Terrace and Gardens which is charming, that day there would be a Wedding Party at Casa Loma¸ so this decoration!!!

The second floor of Casa Loma is reserved for rooms, such as this Chinese-decorated Guest Room  and the Windsor Room.

The Guest Room…
And the Windsor Room

They are also on this floor the Lady Pellat’s and Sir Pellat’s Suites (that’s right, they had separate rooms). On this floor are also the respective bathrooms of both and the Round Room.

The third floor is dedicated to wars, with weapons and clothing from the First and Second World Wars, the Queen’s Shotgun Museum, also the Austin Room, the Pellar Council Room and the Employees Room.

War Clothing

And this beautiful painting “It is Written” by Brian Lorimer, which shows the entire symbolism of the letter for soldiers.

“It is Written”

It is also on the third floor that you have access to the towers: the Scottish (which is closed) and the Norman (which is open), both providing us with beautiful views of the city. Access to them is through a tunnel that is also used for scape room activities.

Now we go to the basement or lower level where is the Cellar and the Tunnel for the Stables (both the tunnel and the stables were decorated for the Halloween Party). We also visited the Vintage Cars Room in the Stables and where the plants are prepared for the garden.

Still on the lower level is the Hollywood Film Gallery, with posters of several films that were recorded at Casa Loma, such as Chicago, The Cavesman’s Valentines, X-Men, among others. In addition to the Theater (which is in the room where the pool would be built, but there was no time), the Liberty Café and a gift shop!!!!

Casa Loma opens daily from 9:30 am to 5:00 pm, closing only at Christmas and tickets range from CAD $ 20 to CAD $ 30 (the latter being for adults). It is worth remembering that the same city pass that I mentioned when I mentioned the CN Tower also entitles you to enter Casa Loma (and this is the one we used). More information about values and hours are on the website: https://casaloma.ca/plan-your-visit-2/ . It is a tour that I highly recommend!!!!

4 – Royal Ontario Museum (ROM)

If you like a museum, your Toronto trip must include a visit to the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM), which was founded in 1914 and has undergone several expansions over time to prepare for be the largest museum in Canada, with a collection of more than 13 million pieces, ranging from dinosaur fossils, through works of art from different periods of human history, to animal species, distributed among more than 30 galleries of the Museum.

Royal Ontario Museum (ROM)

ROM presents a very interesting architecture, mixing the classic with the modern and inviting us to explore it to the fullest.

As soon as we enter the ROM, at Level 1 we are already surprised by this huge dinosaur, which already announces what awaits us on its six floors (levels B1 and B2 in the basement and levels 1 to 4 above).

As the ROM is huge, I suggest that you already have in mind what you would like to visit and go straight to these exhibitions and if you have time, get to know other spaces in the Museum. And that’s what we did, going directly to Level 2 where the Dinosaur Side is, which really impress and you can even make a montage of what the T-Rex would be like and you face to face.

Welcome to the Dinosaurs Side

Also on Level 2 is the Biodiversity Side, which is part of stuffed animals. I confess that I was very shocked to see them there, so I passed by quickly, but I will show you some pictures if you are interested to know.

We now proceed to Level 3, where pieces from different parts of the world are exhibited, from Ancient Egypt, such as tombs, sarcophaus and even mummified cats…

Visiting Ancient Egypt from ROM

At Level 3 we also pass through Greece and Rome, Asia, among other places and cultures.

Greece and Rome…
And Asia

The other levels also have fixed collections and temporary exhibitions, in addition to cafes and souvenir shops. ROM runs from Tuesday to Sunday from 10 am to 5:30 pm and tickets cost from CAD$ 14 to CAD$ 23 (the latter is the adult fee). Recalling that it is also possible to enter the city pass (which also includes the CN Tower and Casa Loma as I mentioned earlier). To find out more details just take a look at the website: https://www.rom.on.ca/en

5 – Ripley´s Aquarium

Other popular attraction in Toronto is the Ripley’s Aquarium¸ which is one of the largest aquariums in Canada with over 16,000 aquatic species and more than 5.7 million liters of water. It was opened in 2013 with the proposal of conservation and marine research combined with awareness for preservation through entertainment, and is in a strategic location in Downtown Toronto: next to the CN Tower and the Rogers Center (baseball stadium that I will comment on more forward).

Ripley’s Aquarium is divided into two levels (upper and lower levels) and many galleries. We start with Canadian Waters where several Canadian aquatic species are represented.

Canadian Waters
Love is in the water…

From there, we continue to one of the most popular areas for visitors to the Ripley’s Aquarium: the Dangerous Lagoon, where sharks, rays, sawfish and many other marine animals can be observed through an underwater tunnel with a tredmill belt. As you walk on the treadmill, they pass over your head…

Going through the Dangerous Lagoon tunnel

Then we went to Planet Jellies, which features several species of jellyfish with screens that change color, providing a beautiful spectacle. And you can even take a picture to see what you would be like if you were a jellyfish.

Upside down Jellyfish
Now I’m a jellyfish

From there we go to the Discovery Center and Ray Bay, where it is possible to touch the crabs like the “Horseshoe Crab”, shrimp and other animals in the first and big rays in the second!!! And throughout the aquarium there are always panels calling attention to the preservation of these species.

At Ray-Bay

Ripley’s Aquarium operates daily from 9 am to 11 pm, but there are days when it need to close early, so it’s good to confirm the time on the website on the day you plan to go. Tickets range from CAD$ 08 (for children) to CAD$ 39 (for adults on the express ticket). It is worth remembering that it is also an attraction included in the city pass. More information about the aquarium as a whole is on the website: https://www.ripleyaquariums.com/canada/

6 – Medieval Times

Medieval Times

you like the universe of the Middle Ages, you will surely be enchanted by Medieval Times, a themed concert hall from the medieval period that really transports us to that time from the moment of our entrance, in the Main Hall, following the show and even at dinner.

Entrance Hall of Medieval Times

Still in the Main Hall, it is possible to visit the Museum of Torture, which presents the various means of torture used during the inquisition in the medieval period. Exposed are the instruments of torture and illustrated pictures explaining each of these objects. These are very strong scenes, so I’ll just show you these photos that are lighter so you can get an idea of what it looks like.

Museum of Torture

But to compensate for the weight of the Museum of Torture, we went to the other side of the Main Hall where the Stables are with the beautiful Horses that will participate in the show. It makes you want to take all these fluffy ones home.

With these lovely horses…

The Main Hall also has a bar, souvenir shops and a Sword Shop, with most of these coming from Toledo in Spain which is famous for the quality of its steel. If you want to know a little more about the city of Toledo and how is the sword shop there, just take a look at this post I made earlier: https://cadaviagemumabagagem.com/a-bela-espanha/

Now the great moment of the Medieval Times Dinner-Show has arrived, just imagine watching a show of medieval battles, cheering for your knight while tasting a typical menu from the Middle Ages (like tomato soup, roasted corn, potatoes and for those who don’t is vegetarian – like my sister – half roasted chicken is served). And detail to eat with your hands because at that time there was no cutlery. Just take a look at this video to see the beauty of the horses and feel what the show will be like: https://youtu.be/Msmv8q-mKEI and tell me if this dancing horse is not a charm: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e4eTrSJO4Bo

After this incredible show it is possible to take pictures with the Cast and my sister, of course, wanted to take a photo with one of the show’s protagonists: the Horse. Detail that on that day, our Yellow Team was the winner and we even won a Red Rose from the Champion Knight

Even the Horse posed for the photo
With the Winner: Yellow Knight

The price of the ticket (CAD$ 67.95 – adults and CAD$ 45.95 – children) already includes the show and dinner (starter, main course, dessert, drinks and coffee) and if you buy in advance on the website it is still possible to get discounts. For more details just take a look: https://www.medievaltimes.com/plan-your-trip/toronto-on/index.html

7 – Rogers Centre

Rogers Centre

If you like sports, you will surely be delighted by this tour: visit the Rogers Center, which is the home stadium of the Toronto Blue Jays baseball club and also the Canadian football team Toronto Argonauts.

The stadium was opened in 1989, with great emphasis on its fully retractable roof (which takes about 20 minutes to open and another 20 minutes to close) and with a capacity for more than 50 thousand spectators. It is worth remembering that the stadium’s initial name was SkyDome, however when it was acquired by Rogers Communications in 2004, its name was changed in 2005 to Rogers Center.

Rogers Centre Stadium

It is possible to take a Guided Tour to the Rogers Center to learn a little more about its history and who guided us on this tour was the Talon Guide.

In this Guided Tour to the Rogers Center, we had the opportunity to visit one of the main cabins, the ClubHouse, as well as other exclusive areas and also see the Stadium from various angles.

Other Exclusive Area
Another view of Stadium

The ticket for this guided tour costs CAD$ 20 and can be purchased at the official Blue Jays store at the stadium itself.

But if you (like me) haven’t done it in your life or love the sport, you can take the opportunity to Watch a Baseball Game at Rogers Center.

Watching the Baseball Game

. That same day of the afternoon guided tour, we went to watch the game at night: Blue Jays vs. Baltimore Orioles. Ah! Be aware that the game is extensive, it started at 19h and ended around midnight (while there is tie doesn’t end). But it was a different experience and the breaks are very lively, there is a Mascot, the whole family goes and how people have fun, play, dance, in short, it was good to have met. To find out more details about the games and just check out the website: https://www.mlb.com/bluejays

8 – Toronto Sign and Toronto City Hall

Toronto’s Famous Sign

Do you want to know a place to take photos that will blow on social networks? So join me now on the Toronto Light Sign, which is on Nathan Phillips Square. This square, which is at the intersection of Bay Street and Queen Street, was named after Mayor Nathan Phillips, who administered the city between 1955 and 1962. The sign itself was opened in 2015 for the Pan American Games that would take place in the city that year and then it would be removed. But it generated so much enchantment that it ended up definitely staying there. It is worth the visit both during the day and at night !!! Then tell me which one you preferred…

Toronto Sign during the Day…
Toronto Sign at Night

It is also in this Nathan Phillips Square, right behind the sign with the water mirror that is the Toronto City Hall, this beautiful and modern building was inaugurated in 1965, together with the square. The futuristic project was designed by the Finnish Viljo Revell, who won the competition with his daring project of a building with a rectangular base, with two curved towers and with different heights in the transversal and with a rounded dome in the center where is the Council Chamber.  It is really a building that draws attention!!!

Toronto City Hall during the Day and…
At Night

Next to this square is also The Old City Hall, a building of beautiful architecture, which opened in 1899 and remained the seat of the City until 1965, when it moved to the building above. The Old City Hall was built in a neo-romanesque style with a clock tower and bells and is the place where the Christmas Parade takes place.

9 – Toronto Eaton Centre/ Path/ Dundas Square

Toronto Eaton Centre

CF Toronto Eaton Centre or simply Eaton Centre is one of Toronto’s main shopping centers, with a wide range of stores and famous brands, where you can find everything you need. To find out more information just take a look at the website: https://www.cfshops.com/toronto-eaton-centre.html . The Eaton Centre is part of PATH, which is Toronto’s Underground City, which has shops, restaurants and various services, connected to the city’s subway stations, commercial buildings and sightseeing along its 30 km long. PATH is an excellent option for the Toronto winter, which is usually quite strict.

Toronto Eaton Centre connected to PATH

One of the entrances to the Eaton Center is opposite Yonge and Dundas Square, which is at the intersection of Yonge and Dundas Street and is known as Toronto’s Times Square, with its bright and tall buildings around it. It is considered one of the great tourist attractions and since its inauguration in 1998 it hosts several events and gathers many people. It is worth knowing both during the day and at night.

Yonge-Dundas Square during the day…
And it gets even more beautiful at dusk

There at Dundas Square is also one of the units at Jack Astor’s Bar and Grill, where you can taste the Poutine, a very famous dish in Canada that consists of french fries with cheese and sauce, and this delicious Milk Shake with a kind of rain cookie!!!!
