Na Iluminada e Poderosa Nova York – Dia 3

Continuando nosso tour diário por Nova York, conforme mencionei no post: https://cadaviagemumabagagem.com/na-iluminada-e-poderosa-nova-york esse terceiro dia foi muito especial e emocionante, porque tivemos o privilégio de conhecer de perto da Estátua da Liberdade, esse ícone de Nova Iorque e ainda apreciar a vista da cidade do prédio mais alto dos Estados Unidos, o One World Trade Center, entre muitas outras aventuras. Vamos começar?

Roteiro do 3° dia: Applebee’s / Big Bus / Estátua da Liberdade / Ellis Island / One World Trade Center Station / Memorial e Museu Nacional 11 de Setembro / One World Observatory / Balada PHD

Como o dia de hoje promete muito passeio e diversão, vamos começar com um belo Café da Manhã no Applebee’s, um restaurante super aconchegante e com uma comida deliciosa. Fomos na unidade que fica em 234, West 42nd Street, mas existem outras na cidade e também espalhadas pelo mundo, inclusive no Brasil. Então se quiser conhecer antes de ir viajar, já pode aproveitar a oportunidade.

A rede Applebee’s foi criada em 1980 em Atlanta na Geórgia depois foi se expandindo por todo o mundo e chegou ao Brasil em 2004, com uma unidade em Moema em São Paulo, e posteriormente em outros estados também. Com certeza uma das melhores formas de conhecer a cidade (principalmente se você estiver com pouco tempo) é utilizando os ônibus turísticos. Além do áudio-guia contar um pouco sobre cada ponto turístico, a comodidade de poder desembarcar e embarcar novamente pra continuar o percurso ajuda bastante, inclusive para se localizar na cidade e poder explorá-la por conta própria depois. Nosso Ônibus Hop-On, Hop-Off dessa vez foi o Big Bus New York, que tem dois roteiro clássicos a Rota Vermelha (Red Route), que explora a região mais central (downtown) e a Rota Azul (Blue Route), que explora a região mais acima (uptown), onde fica o Central Park.

Você também tem a opção de escolher por quantos dias quer utilizar Big Bus New York, nós compramos o de dois dias, para poder aproveitar mais e descer em vários pontos para explorar. E como cortesia ganhamos um dia extra (o que nos ajudou bastante) e junto com esse tour, compramos também o noturno que já mencionei como foi no roteiro do 2° dia. E uma das paradas do Big Bus é a da “Estátua da Liberdade”, que na verdade é no Castle Clinton, onde fica o ponto de acesso para o Ferry Boat (ou Balsa) que nos levará até a Estátua. Assim como fizemos em Toronto, aqui nós compramos pela internet o “CityPass New York”, que é um combo com ingressos para seis atrações em Nova York, entre elas o Ferry Boat de Acesso à Estátua da Liberdade e a Ellis Island (que também visitamos e vou te contar como foi mais pra frente na postagem). Vale lembrar que antes de pegar a balsa todos os passageiros precisam passar por uma checagem de segurança com raio-X e detector de metais, bem parecida com a dos aeroportos (isso passou a ser recorrente em vários pontos turísticos da cidade depois dos atentados de 11 de setembro).

Realmente não tem como falar de Nova York e não lembrar dela, a Poderosíssima e Absoluta “The Statue of Liberty” (ou A Estátua da Liberdade, um dos principais cartões-postais e ícones da cidade, que fica na Liberty Island (ou Ilha da Liberdade) e tem como nome oficial “A Liberdade Iluminando o Mundo”.

A Poderosa e Absoluta Estátua da Liberdade

A Estátua da Liberdade foi inaugurada (ou “dedicada” como eles preferem dizer) em 28 de outubro de 1886 e foi um presente da França aos Estados Unidos, como forma de agradecimento pela ajuda em uma batalha contra a Inglaterra. A Estátua é feita de cobre e foi projetada em estilo neoclássico pelo escultor francês Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi e sua estrutura metálica interna que dá toda a sustentação foi construída pelo também francês Gustave Eiffel (o mesmo idealizador da Torre Eiffel de Paris – se você ainda não viu ou quer rever o post sobre a França é só acessar o link para saber mais sobre a Torre e os outros pontos turísticos de lá: https://cadaviagemumabagagem.com/os-encantos-da-franca/ ).

A altura total do Monumento chega a 92,9 m, sendo que 46,9 são da base e 46 m são da Estátua da Liberdade em si. Muitas pessoas acabam se decepcionando um pouco por conta dessa altura, imaginando que fosse mais alta em comparação aos grandes edifícios da cidade, porém nada que desabone seu encanto, principalmente em se tratando de ser a representação da deusa romana da liberdade “Libertas”, carregando uma tocha e uma tábua onde está inscrita a data da Declaração de Independência dos Estados Unidos (4 de Julho de 1776) e aos seus pés está uma corrente quebrada. E mais uma curiosidade: a Estátua foi construída em cobre e possuía uma coloração dourada, mas por reações químicas ao passar do tempo adquiriu a cor atual.

Na Liberty Island,além de contemplar a Estátua da Liberdade, você pode apreciar a linda Vista de Manhattan do Mirante e visitar o Museu da Estátua que nos conta os detalhes da construção do monumento e tem um acervo de peças interessantíssimas, como uma réplica da tocha em tamanho natural entre outras. Também é possível subir até a Coroa, mas não dá pra comprar lá na hora, tem que reservar com bastante antecedência no site da Statue Cruises (www.statuecruises.com), eu não sabia e acabei não conseguindo subir, mas já está na minha lista para a próxima viagem a Nova York, se você for, nos conte como foi nos comentários.

Saindo dali, pegamos o Ferry Boat e fomos visitar a Ellis Island (ou Ilha Ellis), que fica próximo e faz par do Monumento Nacional da Estátua da Liberdade. Essa Ilha era a principal entrada de imigrantes nos Estados Unidos no século XIX e início do século XX e em 1990 se transformou em museu.

Na Ellis Island acontecia a triagem, tanto médica quanto de documentação, para verificar se os imigrantes poderiam permanecer no território americano ou não. Esse grande salão era chamado de Sala de Registros, e era o local onde acontecia a primeira inspeção e os registros e chegou a receber mais de 5 mil pessoas por dia.

O acervo histórico da Ellis Island está distribuído pelos três andares do museu, onde é possível ver os instrumentos médicos da época, os dormitórios, objetos pessoais, utensílios de cozinha, além de muitas fotos e outros objetos. Depois de visitar a Ellis Island, pegamos o Ferry Boat e voltamos para Manhattan, onde fomos conhecer a One World Trade Center Station (ou Estação “One World Trade Center”) que foi reinaugurada em 2016 e apesar de ter como nome oficial “World Trade Center Transportation Hub” ficou conhecida como Estação The Oculus. Ela possui um design bem futurista e foi projetada pelo arquiteto espanhol Santiago Calatrava (o mesmo idealizador do Museu do Amanhã do Rio de Janeiro).

Se exteriormente, a One World Trade Center Station / The Oculus já impressiona, internamente não é diferente, ela é enorme, liga trens, metrô e o sistema PATH, além de abrigar até um shopping center, isso mesmo: o Westfield World Trade Center, que é um dos maiores da cidade. Já que estamos falando de Estação de Trem, não poderia deixar de citar o Metrô de Nova York, que é famoso por funcionar 24 horas por dia todos os dias e ser um dos mais extensos e antigos do mundo. Foi inaugurado em 1904 e atualmente conta com um total 24 linhas, distribuídas em 468 estações. Na ilha de Manhattan se destacam as linhas 1,2 e 3 – Vermelha; 4, 5 e 6 – Verde e A, C e E – Azul. Uma dica pra te ajudar a se locomover utilizando esse meio de transporte é pegar um mapa no hotel ou nas estações ou então nos aplicativos de celular para já saber exatamente qual a linha certa pra chegar ao seu destino. Ao lado da Estação “One World Trade Center”, fica “The National September 11 Memorial & Museum”, que é o complexo formado pelo “Memorial Nacional 11 de Setembro” e pelo “Museu”. O Memorial 11 de Setembro foi inaugurado em 11 de setembro de 2011 como uma forma de homenagear as vítimas do atentado terrorista de 11 de setembro de 2001 que destruiu as Torres Gêmeas. O projeto do Memorial é do arquiteto Michael Arad e do paisagista Peter Walker e consiste em duas piscinas quadradas com cascatas (onde eram as torres), cercada por árvores em uma grande praça. A simbologia desse projeto é bem tocante, pois as cascatas seriam as vidas perdidas caindo no vazio deixado pela sua ausência e nas bordas das piscinas estão gravados os nomes das 2.977 vítimas do atentado de 11 de setembro e de mais seis vítimas do atentado com um carro-bomba ao World Trade Center em 26 de fevereiro de 1993.

Realmente parte o coração relembrar essa tragédia e saber que ela ainda está muito presente na memória e na vida dos novaiorquinos, é uma ferida que não cicatrizou e fez com que fossem intensificados os protocolos de segurança nos principais pontos turísticos da cidade, com raios-X e detector de metais no acesso a eles. Mas em meio à dor, também surge a esperança e um exemplo disso é a “Survivor Tree”, ou Árvore Sobrevivente, uma pereira “Callery” que foi muito danificada quando do ataque terrorista, ficando apenas um galho vivo, mas foi removida dos escombros e levada para reabilitação, voltando ao local atual em 2010, simbolizando assim a resiliência, o renascimento e a superação!!! A visita ao Memorial 11 de Setembro (onde estão a Árvore Sobrevivente e as Piscinas que citei anteriormente) é gratuita e mais informações estão no site: https://www.911memorial.org/

Também em homenagem às vítimas do atentado de 11 de setembro de 2001 foi criado o Museu Nacional 11 de Setembro, que foi inaugurado em 2014 com um acervo de mais de 10 mil peças incluindo colunas de aço retorcidas, carro de bombeiro destruído pela queda da segunda torre, entre muitos outros objetos.

O Museu 11 de Setembro foi projetado pela Empresa de Arquitetura Davis Brody Bond e ocupa uma área de 10 mil m² a 21m abaixo do solo, tendo um acesso através de um pavilhão no qual se encontram duas colunas resgatadas das Torres Gêmeas e também fotos e explicações detalhadas sobre o atentado, inclusive quadros das Torres Gêmeas (como eram antes e durante o atentado).

E descendo mais um pouco chegamos na sala onde tem um muro de contenção do Rio Hudson, que permaneceu preservado mesmo com os ataques e a “Última Coluna” que foi retirada dos escombros em Maio de 2002. Agora para desanuviar um pouco o ar de tristeza e pesar da visita ao Memorial e ao Museu, nada melhor do que contemplar uma vista linda da cidade do One World Observatory, que fica no One World Trade Center (World Trade Center 1 – WTC 1), o icônico prédio do novo complexo do World Trade Center, que foi inaugurado em 2014 e é edifício mais alto dos Estados Unidos e um dos mais altos do mundo, com uma altura de mais de 540m. O One World Trade Center foi projetado pelo arquiteto David Childs, em estilo pós-moderno e conta com 104 andares, sendo que 69 destes são destinados a escritórios, e outros para restaurantes e o deck de observação que é o One World Observatory, ocupando os andares 100°, 101° e 102°, e a subida até esse último pelos elevadores “Sky Pods” dura apenas um minuto. Isso mesmo, um minuto para chegar ao 102° andar do prédio mais alto da cidade e contemplar essa vista encantadora e ainda conhecendo um pouco mais sobre a história de Nova York nesse trajeto.

Chegando no deck de observação do One World Observatory, somos recepcionados por um filme curtinho no See Forever Theater falando mais um pouco sobre a cidade e ao final deste a tela sobe e se abre a linda linha do horizonte de Nova York, com uma vista espetacular da cidade. In Illuminated and Powerful New York – Day 3

Continuing our daily tour of New York, as I mentioned in the post: https://cadaviagemumabagagem.com/na-iluminada-e-poderosa-nova-york/ , this third day was very special and exciting, because we had the privilege to meet up close to the Statue of Liberty, that icon of New York and still enjoy the city view from the tallest building in the United States, the One World Trade Center, among many other adventures. Day 3 Itinerary: – Applebee’s / Big Bus / Statue of Liberty / Ellis Island / One World Trade Center Station / National September 11 Memorial and Museum / One World Observatory / Ballad PHD

As today promises a lot of fun and outings, let’s start with a nice breakfast at Applebee’s, a super cozy restaurant with delicious food. We went to the unit at 234, West 42nd Street, but there are others in the city and also spread around the world, including Brazil. Our Hop-On, Hop-Off Bus this time was the Big Bus New York, which has two classic routes, the Red Route, which explores the most central region (downtown) and the Blue Route, which explores the uppermost region (uptown), where Central Park is located.

You also have the option to choose how many days you want to use Big Bus New York, we bought the two-day one, so you can enjoy more and get off at various points to explore. And as a courtesy, we won an extra day (which helped us a lot) and along with this tour, we also bought the night that I already mentioned as it was in the 2nd day itinerary. And one of the stops on the Big Bus is the “Statue of Liberty”, which is actually at Castle Clinton, where is the access point for the Ferry Boat that will take us to the Statue. Just like we did in Toronto, here we bought the “CityPass New York” online, which is a combo with tickets to six attractions in New York, including the Ferry Boat for Access to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island (which we also visited and I’ll tell you how it went later in the post). It is worth remembering that before taking the ferry, all passengers need to go through an X-ray security check and metal detector, very similar to the one at the airports (this became a recurrent feature in several tourist spots in the city after the 11 attacks). of September).

There is really no way to talk about New York and not remember it, the Powerfull and Absolute The Statue of Liberty, one of the main postcards and icons of the city, which is on Liberty Island and has as its official name “Liberty Illuminating the World”.

Statue of Liberty was inaugurated (or “dedicated” as they prefer to say) on October 28, 1886 and was a gift from France to the United States, as a way of thanking them for their help in a battle against England. The total height of the Monument reaches 304 ft, of which 153 ft are from the base and 150ft are from the Statue of Liberty itself. Many people end up being a little disappointed because of that height, imagining that it was taller in comparison to the big buildings in the city, but nothing that undermines its charm, especially when it comes to being the representation of the Roman goddess of freedom “Libertas”, carrying a torch and a board bearing the date of the United States Declaration of Independence (July 4, 1776) and at his feet is a broken chain. And one more curiosity: the Statue was built in copper and had a golden color, but due to chemical reactions over time it acquired the current color.

On Liberty Island, in addition to contemplating the Statue of Liberty, you can enjoy the beautiful View of Manhattan from the Lookout and visit the Statue Museum that tells us the details of the construction of the monument and has a collection of very interesting pieces, such as a copy of the torch, in natural size among others. It is also possible to go up to the Crown, but you can’t buy it right there, you have to book it well in advance on the Statue Cruises website (www.statuecruises.com ), I didn’t know and I ended up not being able to go up, but it’s already in my list for the next trip to New York, if you are, tell us how it went in the comments.

Leaving there, we took the Ferry Boat and went to visit Ellis Island, which is close by and is part of the National Monument of the Statue of Liberty. This island was the main entry for immigrants to the United States in the 19th and early 20th centuries and in 1990 it became a museum.

Ellis Island was screened, both medical and documentation, to see if immigrants could stay in American territory or not. This large hall was called the Records Room, and it was the place where the first inspection and records took place, and it received more than 5,000 people a day.

Ellis Island‘s historical collection is spread over the three floors of the museum, where you can see the medical instruments of the time, personal objects, the bedrooms, kitchen utensils, as well as many photos and other objects. After visiting Ellis Island, we took the Ferry Boat and went back to Manhattan, where we went to visit the One World Trade Center Station that was reopened in 2016 and despite having as its official name “World Trade Center Transportation Hub” became known as The Oculus Station. It has a very futuristic design and was designed by the Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava (the same creator of the Museum of Tomorrow in Rio de Janeiro).

If externally, the One World Trade Center Station / The Oculus is already impressive, internally it is no different, it is huge, it connects trains, subways and the PATH system, in addition to housing even a shopping center, that’s right: the Westfield World Trade Center, which is one of the largest in the city. Since we are talking about the Train Station, I could not fail to mention the New York Subway, which is famous for operating 24 hours a day every day and being one of the most extensive and oldest in the world. It was opened in 1904 and currently has a total of 24 lines, distributed in 468 stations. On the Island of Manhattan, lines 1,2 and 3 – Red stand out; 4, 5 and 6 – Green and A, C and E – Blue. Next to the “One World Trade Center” Station is “The National September 11 Memorial & Museum”, which is the complex formed by the “National September 11 Memorial” and the “Museum”. The 9/11 Memorial was opened on September 11, 2011 as a way to honor the victims of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack that destroyed the Twin Towers. The Memorial project is by architect Michael Arad and landscaper Peter Walker and consists of two square pools with waterfalls (where the towers used to be), surrounded by trees in a large square. The symbology of this project is very touching, because the waterfalls would be the lives lost falling into the void left by their absence and on the edges of the pools are engraved the names of the 2,977 victims of the September 11 attack and of six more victims of the attack with a car -pump to the World Trade Center on February 26, 1993.

Also in honor of the victims of the September 11, 2001 attack, the National September 11 Museum was created, which opened in 2014 with a collection of more than 10,000 pieces including twisted steel columns, a fire engine destroyed by the fall of the second tower, among many other objects.

The National September 11 Museum was designed by the Architecture Company Davis Brody Bond and occupies an area of 107639.1 ft² at 68 ft below the ground, having access through a pavilion in which there are two columns rescued from the Twin Towers and also photos and explanations detailed information about the attack, including pictures of the Twin Towers (as they were before and during the attack).

And going down a little further we arrived at the room where there is a retaining wall of the Hudson River, which remained preserved even with the attacks and the “Last Column” that was removed from the rubble in May 2002. Now to relieve the sadness and regret of the visit to the Memorial and Museum a little, nothing better than to contemplate a beautiful view of the city from the One World Observatory, which is in the One World Trade Center (World Trade Center 1 – WTC 1) , the iconic building of the new World Trade Center complex, which opened in 2014 and is the tallest building in the United States and one of the tallest in the world, with a height about 1776 ft. One World Trade Center was designed by the architect David Childs, in a post-modern style and has 104 floors, 69 of which are for offices, and others for restaurants and the observation deck that is the One World Observatory, occupying the floors 100°, 101° and 102°, and the ascent to the latter by the “Sky Pods” lifts lasts only one minute. That’s right, one minute to reach the 102nd floor of the tallest building in the city and contemplate this enchanting view and still knowing a little more about the history of New York on this route.

Arriving at the observation deck of the One World Observatory, we are welcomed by a short film at the See Forever Theater talking a little more about the city and at the end of this the screen rises and opens the beautiful New York skyline, with a spectacular view of the city. Not yet … To really close the door with a golden key in one more night in New York we went to enjoy a nightclub in one of the most top clubs in the city (wonderful tip from our Dear Friend Valéria): PHD Lounge, which is on a terrace on the 12th floor, it has a sophisticated decor inspired by the 80s and provides us with a beautiful view of the Empire State Building and the city all lit up (just to reinforce the title of this post ?) to the sound of a lot of electronic and house music. Roteiro do 2° dia: Carlo’s Bake Shop / Brooklyn Brigde/ Wall Street / Cruzeiro Circle-line / M&M’s World / Hard Rock Café / Tour Noturno no Big Bus

Pra começar bem o dia, fomos tomar o café da manhã no Carlo’s Bake Shop, a famosa padaria do programa Cake Boss. A padaria foi inaugurada em 1910 por Carlo Guastaferro e adquirida em 1964 pelo Bartolo Valastro, que faleceu em 1994, deixando a administração para sua esposa e filhos, entre eles o Bartolo Jr, conhecido como “Buddy” Valastro, que é foi expandindo os negócios da família e atualmente é o apresentador do programa e conhecido como“Cake Boss” (Chefe do Bolo).

Realmente as guloseimas da Carlo’s Bake Shop estavam muito boas e as fatias de bolo eram muito generosas!!! Eu escolhi a de Red Velvet e a minha irmã a de Mousse de Chocolate… Mas confesso que foi uma escolha difícil, em virtude da variedade de opções que enchem os olhos… Existem várias unidades da Carlo’s Bake Shop, nós fomos na da 8th Avenue, 625 (Esquina com a 42nd Street), e também tem no Brasil, caso você não aguente esperar até ir a Nova York. As generosas fatias de Red Velvet e Mousse de Chocolate

Seguimos agora para um outro cartão postal da cidade, que com certeza você já viu em vários filmes, estou falando da Brooklyn Bridge (ou Ponte do Brooklyn), que cruza o East River (Rio East), ligando Manhattan ao Brooklyn e é uma das pontes suspensas mais antigas dos Estados Unidos.

A Ponte do Brooklyn foi inaugurada em 1883, com um comprimento total de 1825m e largura de 26m e foi a primeira ponte de aço suspensa do mundo, sendo considerada a maior do mundo quando da sua inauguração. Suas torres de 84m de altura foram construídas com calcário, granito e cimento. O projeto foi do arquiteto John Augustus Roebling, que adotou o estilo gótico e a ponte foi designada como Marco Histórico Nacional em 1964. É realmente muito bonita e vai te proporcionar lindas fotos, além de vistas encantadoras!

Cruzando a Ponte do Brooklyn, fomos conhecer o Brooklyn Bridge Park, que é um parque de 34 hectares que margeia a ponte e o Rio East e que está desenvolvendo um grande projeto de revitalização dessa área e nos permite uma vista privilegiada de Manhattan e da própria Ponte do Brooklyn. De um lado Brooklyn e do outro Manhattan

Também do outro lado da Brooklyn Bridgefica o DUMBO, que é a abreviação de Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass (Abaixo da Ponte de Manhattan), sigla que surgiu em 1978 para incentivar o desenvolvimento e investimentos pro bairro, que a princípio era uma área portuária de balsas, com armazéns e edifícios industriais e no final do século XX, tornou-se mais residencial e comercial. E aproveitando que estávamos no Dumbo, não poderíamos perder a oportunidade de tirarmos a foto clássica da Manhattan Bridge entre os prédios. Vale a pena registrar esse ângulo!! Lembrando que essa ponte foi inaugurada em 1909, tem 2.089m de comprimento e também faz a ligação entre Manhattan e o Brooklyn.

Voltando para Manhattan, fomos visitar a famosa Wall Street, onde fica a Bolsa de Valores de Nova York (New York Stock Exchange) e é considerado o mais importante centro financeiro e comercial do mundo. Imagina só a quantidade de capital que é trabalhado por aqui e o poder desse lugar? E a rua recebeu esse nome “Wall Street” (traduzindo fica “Rua do Muro”) por conta de um muro que foi construído em 1685 pelos holandeses que moravam na região para se protegerem de invasões (principalmente dos indígenas e dos ingleses) e para evitar a fuga de escravos. O muro só foi demolido em 1699, iniciando uma nova era pra cidade.

Quase em frente ao edifício da Bolsa de Valores de Nova York fica a estátua “Fearless Girl” (ou Garota Destemida) que foi idealizada com o objetivo de incentivar a participação feminina no mercado financeiro e no mundo corporativo em geral. Ela foi criada em 2017, pela artista Kristen Visbal, que ficou encarregada de tornar real (físico) os conceitos das publicitárias Lizzie Wilson e Tali Gumbiner. A estátua é feita de bronze fundido com 1,30m de altura e pesa 110 kg. Realmente ela é muito expressiva!!!

Falando em expressividade, outra estátua que chama a atenção é o famoso “Charging Bull” (ou Touro de Wall Street), que na tradução literal seria “Touro em Investida”, que representa um touro em posição de ataque, simbolizando o poder e a força do povo americano e também a altivez do mercado financeiro de Nova York.

A estátua do Touro de Wall Street foi instalada em 15 de dezembro de 1989, inicialmente em frente à Bolsa de Valores de Nova York, mas depois foi removida e reinstalada em 21 de dezembro do mesmo ano onde está atualmente, na Praça Bowling Green (dois quarteirões ao sul da Wall Street). O Touro foi idealizado por Arturo di Modica, construído em bronze e com um tamanho que realmente impressiona: pesa mais de 3 toneladas, mede 3,4m de altura por 4,9m de comprimento e é muito procurado pelos turistas que visitam o Distrito Financeiro de Nova York, principalmente pela lenda de que tocar nas partes íntimas do touro atrai riqueza, então não se assuste se tiver fila atrás dele. Também dizem que dá sorte tocar os chifres ou o focinho do touro. Depois nos conte se você conseguiu tocar e se a lenda se comprovou na sua vida.

Outro passeio bem legal para incluir no roteiro da visita a Nova York é o Cruzeiro “Circle-line – NYC Landmarks”, que nos proporciona vistas incríveis dos principais pontos turísticos da cidade, a bordo de uma embarcação, num tour guiado de 90 minutos.

No Cruzeiro “Circle-line – NYC Landmarks”, pudemos contemplar a Estátua da Liberdade, passar por baixo das pontes Brooklyn Brigde e Manhattan Bridge, tendo um ângulo diferente do que vimos na visita da parte da manhã, entre muitos outros atrativos enquanto navegamos pelos rios Hudson e East. Depois desse tour “aquático”, voltamos para a Times Square para visitar uma loja dos sonhos de quem é a fã de chocolate a “M&M’s World New York”, é isso mesmo que você está lendo, uma loja totalmente dedicada aos M&M’s. A loja vidro de três andares foi inaugurada em 2006 e é um sucesso. Além de uma variedade de M&M’s, a loja também conta com roupas e outros acessórios da marca. Com certeza, você vai querer ficar um bom tempo lá. Também ali na região da Times Square (em 1501, Broadway) fomos no animado Hard Rock Cafe New York. É sempre uma excelente opção de restaurante temático, visitar os Hard Rock Cafes espalhados pelo mundo e o de Nova York não seria diferente, com um ambiente super agradável, uma decoração linda e uma trilha sonora agitada nos conquistou logo de cara.

Outra característica marcante do Hard Rock Café New York é o cardápio, que é maravilhoso e tem opção vegetariana (a que escolhi). Não resistimos aos hambúrgueres e a esses super drinks (detalhe que tem a possibilidade de pagar um pouco a mais e levar o copo pra casa como souvenir, excelente ideia, não é?). Day 2 Itinerary: Carlo’s Bake Shop / Brooklyn Brigde / Wall Street / Circle-line Cruise / M&M’s World / Hard Rock Cafe / Big Bus Night Tour

To start the day well, we went to have breakfast at Carlo’s Bake Shop, the famous bakery of the Cake Boss program. The bakery was opened in 1910 by Carlo Guastaferro and acquired in 1964 by Bartolo Valastro, who passed away in 1994, leaving the administration to his wife and children, among them Bartolo Jr, known as “Buddy” Valastro, who is expanding his business of the family and is currently the host of the program and known as “Cake Boss”.

The Carlo’s Bake Shop treats were really good and the slices of cake were very generous!!! I chose Red Velvet and my sister Chocolate Mousse… But I confess it was a difficult choice, due to the variety of options that fill the eyes … There are several units at Carlo’s Bake Shop, we went to from 8th Avenue, 625 (Corner with 42nd Street), and also in Brazil, in case you can’t wait to go to New York. The generous slices of Red Velvet and Chocolate Mousse

We now proceed to another postcard of the city, which you have certainly seen in several films, I’m talking about the Brooklyn Bridge, which crosses the East River (East River), connecting Manhattan to Brooklyn and is one of oldest suspension bridges in the United States.

The Brooklyn Bridge was opened in 1883, with a total length of 6,016 feet and a width of 85ft and was the first steel suspension bridge in the world, being considered the largest in the world when it opened. Its 278 feet high towers were built with limestone, granite and cement. The project was by the architect John Augustus Roebling, who adopted the Gothic style and the bridge was designated as a National Historic Landmark in 1964. It is really beautiful and will provide you with beautiful photos, as well as lovely views!

Crossing the Brooklyn Bridge, we went to visit the Brooklyn Bridge Park, which is a 34-hectare park that borders the bridge and the East River and which is developing a major project to revitalize this area and allow us a privileged view of Manhattan and the city itself. Also on the other side of the Brooklyn Bridge is DUMBO, which is short for Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass, which came up in 1978 to encourage development and investments for the neighborhood, which at first was an area ferry port, with warehouses and industrial buildings and at the end of the 20th century, it became more residential and commercial. And taking advantage of the fact that we were at Dumbo, we couldn’t miss the opportunity to take the classic photo of the Manhattan Bridge between the buildings. This angle is worth recording!! Recalling that this bridge was inaugurated in 1909, it is 6,855 ft long and also connects Manhattan and Brooklyn.

Returning to Manhattan, we went to visit the famous Wall Street, where the New York Stock Exchange is located and is considered the most important financial and commercial center in the world. Just imagine the amount of capital that is worked here and the power of that place? And the street was named “Wall Street” (translating to “Rua do Muro”) because of a wall that was built in 1685 by the Dutch who lived in the region to protect themselves from invasions (mainly from the Indians and the English) and to avoid the flight of slaves. The wall was only demolished in 1699, starting a new era for the city.

Almost in front of the New York Stock Exchange building is the statue Fearless Girl that was designed with the aim of encouraging female participation in the financial market and in the corporate world in general. It was created in 2017, by artist Kristen Visbal, who was in charge of making real (physical) the concepts of publicists Lizzie Wilson and Tali Gumbiner. The statue is made of cast bronze, 4.26 ft high and weighs 110 kg. It is really very expressive!!!

Speaking of expressiveness, another statue that draws attention is the famous Charging Bull, which in the literal translation would be “Bull in Charge”, which represents a bull in a position of attack, symbolizing power and strength of the American people and also the haughtiness of the New York financial market.

The Wall Street Charging Bull statue was installed on December 15, 1989, initially in front of the New York Stock Exchange, but was later removed and reinstalled on December 21 of the same year where it currently stands, at Bowling Green Square (two blocks south of Wall Street). The Bull was designed by Arturo di Modica, built in bronze and with a size that really impresses: it weighs over 3 tons, measures 11.12 ft in height by 16ft in length and is very popular with tourists visiting the Financial District of New York, mostly because of the legend that touching the bull’s private parts attracts wealth, so don’t be alarmed if you have a line behind him. They also say it’s lucky to touch the bull’s horns or snout. Then tell us if you managed to play and if the legend was proven in your life.

Another very nice tour to include in the New York visit itinerary is the Circle-line – NYC Landmarks Cruise, which provides us with incredible views of the main sights of the city, on board a vessel, on a 90-minute guided tour.

On the Circle-line – NYC Landmarks Cruise, we were able to contemplate the Statue of Liberty, pass under the Brooklyn Brigde and Manhattan Bridge, having a different angle from what we saw in the morning visit, among many other attractions while sailing through Hudson and East rivers. Between Manhattan Bridge and Brooklyn Bridges

After this “water” tour, we went back to Times Square to visit a store of dreams of the M&M’s World New York chocolate fan, that’s what you’re reading, a store totally dedicated to M&M’s. The three-storey glass store opened in 2006 and is a success. In addition to a variety of M&M’s, the store also features branded clothing and accessories. For sure, you will want to stay there for a long time. Also in the Times Square area (in 1501, Broadway) we went to the lively Hard Rock Cafe New York. It is always an excellent themed restaurant option, visiting the Hard Rock Cafes around the world and New York would be no different, with a super pleasant atmosphere, beautiful decor and a lively soundtrack that won us over right away.

Another outstanding feature of the Hard Rock Cafe New York is the menu, which is wonderful and has a vegetarian option (the one I chose). We can’t resist the hamburgers and these super drinks (detail that has the possibility of paying a little extra and taking the glass home as a souvenir, excellent idea, isn’t it?). Boas-vindas a Nova York na TKTS Staircase da Times Square

Antes de começar nosso tour, quero te lembrar que estávamos no Canadá e de lá é que fomos para Nova York, mas no Brasil também existem várias opções de voos, de São Paulo, por exemplo, saem muitos voos e os diretos duram cerca de 10 horas para chegar no destino.

No nosso caso foi uma hora e meia de voo entre Toronto e Nova York (saindo do Aeroporto Internacional Pearson de Toronto (YYZ) e chegando no La Guardia (LGA) de Nova York) – saímos 9h35 e chegamos por volta de 11h06 nesse aeroporto que fica no Queens e a cerca de 14km do centro do Nova York na Ilha de Manhattan.

Já tínhamos contratado o transfer quando fechamos o pacote aqui no Brasil com a Polinésia Turismo (www.polinesiaturismo.com.br ), foi uma das super dicas da nossa querida agente de viagens Sandra, para otimizar o tempo. Agora sim vamos começar nosso tour por Nova York repondo as energias no “Shake Shack”, um dos fast-foods mais tradicionais da cidade, muito procurado por seu famoso hambúrguer gourmet!!! A rede começou em 2001 com um carrinho de cachorro-quente no Madison Square Park, em 2004 inaugurou um quiosque nesse mesmo parque e desde então vem crescendo e se expandindo internacionalmente.

O cardápio do “Shake Shack” tem várias opções de lanches, inclusive vegetariana, como o Veggie Shack que escolhi. Depois de repor as energias, fomos caminhar pela 42nd Street, que é uma das mais badaladas ruas de Nova York, com destaque para seus luminosos, teatros, restaurantes, edifícios imponentes comoo Chrysler Building, o GrandCentral Terminal, entre outros atrativos, inclusive os cruzamentos com a Broadway e a Times Square.

Ainda na 42ndStreet, visitamos o incrível Museu de Cera Madame Tussauds que nos encanta com a perfeição de suas estátuas de cera de celebridades e personalidades históricas.

A história profissional de Madame Tussauds com as peças de cera não começou de uma forma muito agradável, depois de ser libertada da prisão durante a Revolução Francesa, ela teve que fazer máscaras mortuárias com cera para os nobres executados. Mas quando a Revolução acabou e seu mestre na arte da cera, Dr. Philippe Curtius, faleceu lhe deixando como herança sua exposição de cera, ela começou a se dedicar a essa arte e viajar pela Europa em turnê. Até fundar o primeiro Museu de Cera em Londres em 1835. Mas em 1850, Marie Tussauds (a Madame Tussauds) faleceu e posteriormente seus netos assumiram o museu, que com o passar do tempo foi se expandindo mundo afora. Sem falar na possibilidade se Tomar um Chá com a Rainha, ou Estar Junto com Lady Diana, além de subir na bancada para Discursar com Michelle e Barack Obama, entre muitas experiências.

Continuando nosso passeio, fomos conhecer uma das mais famosas Avenidas do Mundo, a 5th Avenue ou Fifth Avenue (Quinta Avenida), que nos seus 10 km de extensão, reúne mansões, lojas e edifícios famosos, entre outros pontos turísticos (que vou te mostrar mais pra frente). É considerada uma das ruas mais caras do mundo, cruzando Nova York de norte a sul e dividindo as ruas do lado leste e oeste de Manhattan. Com certeza, você terá a oportunidade de passar por ela várias vezes durante sua permanência na cidade.

E falando em lugares famosos em Nova York, com certeza esse é dos mais conhecidos, a Times Square, que é uma praça que fica no cruzamento da Broadway com a 7th Avenue (Sétima Avenida) e entre a 42nd Street e a 47th Street. E é marcada pelos seus letreiros luminosos, pela Escadaria da TKTS, além de hotéis, teatros, restaurantes, lojas e prédios icônicos espalhados ao seu redor, como o da bolsa de valores Nasdaq, os estúdios da rede de TV ABC, entre outros.

Mais um detalhe, a Times Square sempre vai estar lotada, o horário que conseguimos encontrá-la um pouco mais tranquila foi durante a semana, por volta da meia-noite, então não se assuste com a muvuca… E se em dia normal, já é assim, imagine no Réveillon, onde uma multidão se reúne pra ver a Descida da Bola (chamada de “Ball Drop”) na contagem regressiva para o Ano Novo. Esse ritual começou em 1908, com uma bola de cristal iluminada descendo por um mastro no topo de um prédio e até hoje encanta moradores e turistas.

Vale lembrar que o primeiro nome da Praça foi Longrace Square, mas em 1904 com a construção do edifício que abrigava o jornal The New York Times (Times Building), passou a se chamar Times Square, esse edifício atualmente é conhecido com One Times Square, e é o prédio que abriga a bola de cristal que falei anteriormente. E já que estamos pertinho da Broadway, nada mais típico de uma viagem do que assistir a um Musical nos Teatros da Broadway. Na verdade a Broadway é uma avenida, que concentra alguns teatros, mas existem muitos outros espalhados pelas ruas próximas que também fazem parte do complexo de “Teatros da Broadway”. Entre as peças mais conhecidas e procuradas estão “O Fantasma da Ópera”, “O Rei Leão”, “Wicked”, “Chicago”, “Harry Potter” entre outras, que também foram montadas no Brasil e realmente seguiram o padrão Broadway. Fiquei muito feliz em ver que as produções brasileiras foram tão excelentes quanto as nova-iorquinas.

No site: www.broadway.org/pt/shows você encontra as peças que estão em cartaz e já pode comprar os ingressos se quiser. Embaixo da escadaria da Times Square tem a bilheteria da TKTS que tem ingressos com descontos para alguns espetáculos em alguns horários para o próprio dia. Mas já te adianto que tem fila e nem sempre você encontrará para a peça que quer. Essa dica é mais se você quer ter uma experiência de assistir a um Musical da Broadway, mas não tem preferência por peça específica e quer economizar um pouco. Nós optamos por comprar diretamente na bilheteria do Longacre Theatre (ou Teatro Longrace), que fica em 220, West 48th Street, para assistir ao Musical The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical (ou O Ladrão de Raios: Percy Jackson O Musical), que é baseado no livro de Rick Riordan, já foi adaptado para o cinema, e conta as aventuras de Percy Jackson, um adolescente semideus em busca do raio perdido de Zeus para evitar uma guerra entre os deuses. Gostei bastante da forma como eles misturaram a mitologia grega com a atualidade!!! E assistir a um espetáculo da Broadway é realmente imperdível!!! Não é permitido filmar ou fotografar a peça, mas só pelo teatro, acredito que já vai te dar vontade de conhecer…

“**O Ladrão de Raios: Percy Jackson O Musical**“

Ainda mais se for uma das pizzas mais famosas de Nova York… Estou falando da Joe’s Pizza, que foi fundada em 1975, por Joe Pazzuoli, em West Village. Apesar de já ser tradicional na cidade, a Pizzaria ganhou fama por ser o local onde PeterParker trabalhava como entregador de Pizza no “Homem Aranha 2” e já recebeu várias celebridades, como é possível ver pelas fotos na parede.

Nós tivemos a sorte de não pegar muita fila, mas um lugar dentro da Pizzaria é bem concorrido, então prepare-se para esperar um pouco. In Illuminated and Powerful New York – Day 1

As I mentioned in the previous post: https://cadaviagemumabagagem.com/na-iluminada-e-poderosa-nova-york/ I will show you the New York itineraries separated by day, so let’s start our tour on the right foot, because we have a long walk in this Illuminated City!!!

First Day Itinerary: Shake Shack / 42nd Street / Madame Tussauds New York / Times Square / Broadway: Longrace Theater play The Lighting Thief / Joe’s Pizza

Before starting our tour, I want to remind you that we were in Canada and from there we went to New York, but in Brazil there are also several flight options, from São Paulo, for example, many flights leave and the direct ones last about 10 hours to reach the destination.

In our case it was an hour and a half flight between Toronto and New York (leaving Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) and arriving at La Guardia (LGA) in New York) – we left 9:35 am and arrived around 11:06 am at that airport is in Queens and about 8,7 miles from the center of New York on Manhattan Island.

We had already hired the transfer when we closed the package here in Brazil with Polinésia Turismo (www.polinesiaturismo.com.br), it was one of the good tips of our dear travel agent Sandra, to optimize the time. The transfer took us straight to our Hotel, Pod Times Square, which is very close to the action at 400 West 42nd Street. Who recommended us this Hotel and also gave us precious tips from the city was the dear Friend Amanda!!! The room is small, but cozy and has a great cost-benefit ratio, due to the location. Now we are going to start our tour of New York restoring the energy in the Shake Shack, one of the most traditional fast foods in the city, very popular for its famous gourmet hamburger!!! The chain started in 2001 with a hot dog cart in Madison Square Park, in 2004 it opened a kiosk in that same park and since then it has been growing and expanding internationally.

The Shake Shack menu has several snack options, including vegetarian, like the Veggie Shack I chose. Our friend Benjamin gave us this tip about getting to know Shake Shack and it was a great indication!!! After restoring our energy, we went for a walk on 42nd Street, which is one of the hottest streets in New York, with highlights for its luminous, theaters, restaurants, imposing buildings such as the Chrysler Building, the Grand Central Terminal, among other attractions, including the intersections with Broadway and Times Square.

Still on 42nd Street, we visited the incredible Madame Tussauds New York, which enchants us with the perfection of its wax statues of celebrities and historical personalities.

Madame Tussauds’ professional history with wax pieces did not start very pleasantly, after being released from prison during the French Revolution, she had to make death masks with wax for the executed nobles. But when the Revolution ended and her master in the art of wax, Dr. Philippe Curtius, passed away leaving her her wax exhibition as an inheritance, she began to dedicate herself to this art and travel around Europe on tour. We also had the feeling of being in the Movies. Imagine being able to ride a bike with E.T, sit in the MIB chair, be held by the Hulk, get close to Thor, help with the Ghostbusters, among many other adventures.

Not to mention the possibility of Having a Tea with the Queen, or Being Together with Lady Diana, in addition to going up on the bench To Speak with Michelle and Barack Obama, among many experiences.

Continuing our tour, we went to visit one of the most famous Avenues in the World, 5th Avenue or Fifth Avenue, which in its 10 km long, brings together mansions, shops and famous buildings, among other sights (which I will show you more forward). It is considered one of the most expensive streets in the world, crossing New York from north to south and dividing the streets on the east and west sides of Manhattan. For sure, you will have the opportunity to go through it several times during your stay in the city.

And speaking of famous places in New York, this is certainly the best known, Times Square, which is a square at the intersection of Broadway and 7th Avenue (Seventh Avenue) and between 42nd Street and 47th Street. And it is marked by its luminous signs, by the TKTS Staircase, in addition to hotels, theaters, restaurants, shops and iconic buildings scattered around it, such as the one on the Nasdaq stock exchange, the studios of the ABC TV network, among others.

One more detail, Times Square will always be crowded, the time we managed to find it a little quieter was during the week, around midnight, so don’t be alarmed by the mob … And if on a normal day , it is already like this, imagine on New Year’s Eve, where a crowd gathers to see the Ball Drop, in the countdown to the New Year. This ritual began in 1908, with an illuminated crystal ball going down a mast on the top of a building and even today it delights residents and tourists.

Remember that the square’s first name was Longrace Square, but in 1904 with the construction of the building that housed The New York Times (Times Building), it was renamed Times Square, this building is now known as One Times Square, and it is the building that houses the crystal ball that I talked about earlier. And since we are close to Broadway, nothing is more typical of a trip than watching a Musical in Broadway Theaters. Actually Broadway is an avenue, which concentrates some theaters, but there are many others scattered on the nearby streets that are also part of the “Broadway Theaters” complex. Among the most popular and sought after pieces are “O Phantom of the Opera”, “The Lion King”, “Wicked”, “Chicago”, “Harry Potter” among others, which were also assembled in Brazil and really followed the Broadway standard. I was very happy to see that the Brazilian productions were as excellent as the New Yorkers.

Below the steps of Times Square is the TKTS box office, which has discounted tickets for some shows at certain times of the day. But I already tell you that there is a queue and you will not always find the piece you want. This tip is more if you want to have an experience of watching a Broadway Musical, but have no preference for a specific piece and want to save a little. We opted to buy directly at the Longacre Theater box office, 220, West 48th Street, to watch The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical, which is based on the book by Rick Riordan, has already been adapted for the cinema, and tells the adventures of Percy Jackson, a demigod teenager in search of Zeus’ lost ray to avoid a war between the gods. O segundo dia de passeio em Nova Iorque foi marcado pela travessia e linda vista da Brooklyn Bridge (ou Ponte do Brooklyn)!!!

Mas antes começamos pelo café da manhã na Carlo’s Bake Shop!!!

Depois de cruzarmos a ponte, voltamos para Manhattan para conhecer a Wall Street (New York Stock Exchange), a famosa Bolsa de Valores de Nova Iorque!

E em seguida fomos fazer o Cruzeiro Circle-Line pelo Hudson River onde passamos pela Estátua da Liberdade!!!

No final da tarde, uma visita tentadora à Mega loja M&M’s World e depois ao Hard Rock Cafe!

E para fechar a noite de uma forma muito especial vamos ver as luzes de Nova Iorque no Tour Noturno do Big Bus (Ônibus Turístico).

Passeamos de Big Bus (o ônibus turístico de Nova Iorque) e visitamos o Memorial e o Museu 11 de Setembro (onde ficavam as Torres Gêmeas).

Para desanuviar a tristeza desse lugar, contemplamos uma vista maravilhosa do One World Observatory.

E para finalizar a noite de um jeito muito top, fomos na balada PHD!!!

O tour desse dia é bem completo!!! Começamos pelo Central Park que é maravilhoso, um verdadeiro refúgio verde no meio dos altos edifícios da cidade e tem muito pra conhecer

De lá seguimos para o Museu de História Natural (aquele mesmo do filme “Uma Noite no Museu”).

Depois para o MET (Metropolitan Museum of Art), que tem um acervo grandioso e essa parte do Egito é realmente encantadora!!!

Também visitamos o Grand Central Terminal, que é a famosa Estação Central e tem as constelações do zodíaco pintadas no teto!!!

E à noite fomos ao Rockefeller Center e subimos no seu mirante o Top of the Rock que nos proporcionou essa vista belíssima das luzes de Nova York!!!

O jantar foi no T.G.I. Fridays e a sobremesa foi na famosa Magnolia Bakery!!!

Nesse dia também visitamos a Columbus Circle e a St. Patrick’s Cathedral!!!

Como tudo que é bom dura pouco, chegou a hora de nos despedirmos de Nova York! Então que seja em alto estilo e no alto de um dos prédios mais famosos de New York: o Empire State Building (aquele mesmo do filme King Kong)!!!

Aproveitamos também para dar uma passadinha na The New York Public Library ou Biblioteca Pública de Nova York e na loja de departamento Macy’s, afinal ninguém resiste a umas comprinhas em Nova York!

Também fomos conhecer o Vessel , que é um prédio/obra de arte que parece uma colméia de abelhas.

Passeamos no High Line, que era uma antiga linha de trem desativada e foi transformada em jardim.

De lá seguimos para o Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum ou Museu Intrepid do Mar, Ar e Espaço que foi montado num porta-aviões da Segunda Guerra Mundial onde tivemos a oportunidade de entrar num submarino e na sala de controle!!!

E para encerrar essa viagem maravilhosa a Nova York, teria que ser um lugar muito especial, então fomos nos despedir da cidade em alto estilo no The View Restaurant & Lounge, o Restaurante Giratório de Manhattan!!!

In Illuminated and Powerful New York

After our journey through Canada, we still enjoy a little more of North America, spending a week In Illuminated and Powerful New York, which really enchants us with its skyscrapers and breathtaking views, its busy avenues and all its daytime and nightlife. nocturnal.

Just remembering that this trip was just before the pandemic, so we are not wearing masks (so don’t worry that we are not breaking the rules ?), but even if you have to follow the safety protocols, it is worth making the most of how much possible what New York has to offer!

As this city has soooo much to know, I will separate the itineraries I made each day and make a post for each day (indicating in this initial post the links) so that you can follow with all the details and live with me this experience in New York . Shall we start our tour?

First Day Itinerary: Shake Shack / Madame Tussauds New York / Broadway: Longrace Theater play The Lighting Thief / Joe’s Pizza

Let’s start our journey through New York by visiting Madame Tussauds New York, a wax museum with perfect works!!!

Let’s eat at the traditional Shake Shack (which also has a vegetarian burger !!!).

Then we’ll go to a Broadway Musical (the one chosen was Percy Jackson – Lightning Thief).

And to end the night, nothing better than a pizza at the famous Joe’s Pizza (the one in the spiderman movie, remember?). What’s so magical about New York is that wherever you walk, you feel like you’re in a movie…

Day 2 Itinerary: Carlo’s Bake Shop / Brooklyn Brigde / Wall Street / Circle-line Cruise / M&M’s World / Hard Rock Cafe / Big Bus Night Tour

The second day of tour in New York was marked by the crossing and beautiful view of the Brooklyn Bridge!!!

But first we started with breakfast at Carlo’s Bake Shop!!!

After crossing the bridge, we return to Manhattan to see The Wall Street, the famous New York Stock Exchange!

And then we went on the Circle-Line Cruise on the Hudson River where we passed the Statue of Liberty!!!

In the late afternoon, a tempting visit to the M&M’s World Mega Store and then to the Hard Rock Cafe!

And to close the night in a very special way we will see the lights of New York on the Big Bus Night Tour (Tourist Bus).

Day 3 Itinerary: – Big Bus / Statue of Liberty / Ellis Island / National September 11 Memorial and Museum / One World Observatory / PHD

That day was very special and exciting, we had the privilege of getting to know the Statue of Liberty up close, this New York icon!!

We also visited Ellis Island, which houses a museum that tells the story of immigrants.

We took a ride on the Big Bus (the New York tourist bus) and visited the 9/11 Memorial and Museum (where the Twin Towers were).

To unwind the sadness of this place, we contemplate a wonderful view from the One World Observatory.

And to end the night in a very top way, we went to the PHD night club!!!

Day 4 Itinerary: Columbus Circle / Central Park / American Museum of Natural History / The MET (Metropolitan Museum of Art) / St. Patrick’s Cathedral / Grand Central Terminal / Rockefeller Center / T.G.I. Friday’s / Magnolia Bakery

The tour of that day is very complete !!! We start with Central Park which is wonderful, a true green haven in the middle of the city’s tall buildings and has a lot to know.

From there we went to the American Museum of Natural History (the same one from the film “Night at the Museum”).

Then to The MET (Metropolitan Museum of Art), which has a huge collection and this part of Egypt is really charming!!!

We also visited the Grand Central Terminal, which is the famous Central Station and has the zodiac constellations painted on the ceiling!!!

And at night we went to the Rockefeller Center and climbed the Top of the Rock in its viewpoint, which provided us with this beautiful view of the lights of New York!!!

Dinner was at T.G.I. Fridays and dessert was at the famous Magnolia Bakery!!!

On that day we also visited Columbus Circle and St. Patrick’s Cathedral!!!

Day 5 Itinerary: The New York Public Library / Empire State Building / Macy’s, Vessel / High Line / Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum / The View

Since everything good is short lived, it’s time to say goodbye to New York! So let it be in style and on top of one of the most famous buildings in New York: the Empire State Building (the same one from the movie King Kong)!!!

We also took the opportunity to stop by The New York Public Library and the Macy’s department store, after all, no one can resist shopping in New York!

We also visited Vessel, which is a building / work of art that looks like a bee hive.

We strolled the High Line, which was an old disabled train line and was transformed into a garden.

From there we went to the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museu that was mounted on an aircraft carrier of the Second World War where we had the opportunity to enter a submarine and the control room!!!

And to end this wonderful trip to New York, it would have to be a very special place, so we went to say goodbye to the city in style at The View Restaurant & Lounge, Manhattan’s Rotating Restaurant!!!

Numa Experiência Enogastronômica com “Dègorgement” na Vinícola Saccomani

O convite de hoje é para uma experiência bem diferente, além de passearmos pela Vinícola Saccomani, teremos a oportunidade de conhecer e colocar em prática a técnica dègorgement de limpeza de espumante. Já imaginou que legal poder participar do processo de fabricação da bebida que você degustará na sequência com um belo rodízio de risotos para harmonizar?

Ficou com vontade, não é mesmo? Então vamos começar agora nosso passeio!!!

Essa Experiência “Enogastronômica” acontece (mediante agendamento prévio) na Vinícola Saccomani¸ que fica em Jundiaí, a cerca de 55 km da capital de São Paulo. O evento em si dura aproximadamente quatro horas (começa às 10h da manhã e termina às 14h), mas você pode continuar aproveitando o ambiente e desfrutando do contato com a natureza por mais tempo se quiser.

Mais uma vez quem me acompanhou nessa aventura foram meus pais (Pedro e Dalva) e minha irmã (Ane)!!! É uma excelente opção de passeio em família!!! Lembrando que todos os protocolos de segurança estão sendo seguidos para que a experiência seja bem tranquila e todos possam aproveitar tomando os devidos cuidados.

Antes da “Experiência” começar, fomos passear pela Vinícola Saccomani, conhecendo uma parte do parreiral, o lago, a casa da árvore (pensa se a “criança interior” aqui ia resistir e não subir? rsrs), o bambuzal, entre outros espaços.

Agora sim, vamos começar nosso tour, e quem nos conduziu foi o Eduardo Ribeiro! Que foi super atencioso conosco, nos passou todas as informações sobre a produção do vinho e ainda é um excelente chef (depois te mostro a foto dele preparando a refeição).

Começamos a experiência conhecendo a plantação de Uva Catawba Rosa, que foi trazida pelo casal de italianos (Sr. Luize Saccomani e sua esposa Pellegrina Saccomani) há 135 anos. Inicialmente, o cultivo de uva era no Bairro Vila Arens (também em Jundiaí), onde permaneceu até 1970 sob a administração do filho deles, o Sr. Francisco Saccomani. Depois disso, a filha do Sr. Francisco, D. Darcy Saccomani resolveu plantar as uvas na propriedade atual que fica na região do Horto Florestal e que por conta da umidade da mata, acabou favorecendo a produção. Agora a administração está na quarta geração, sob os cuidados do Sr. José Eduardo Barbosa (que tivemos a oportunidade de conhecer durante a visita).

Visitando o Parreiral de Uva Catawba Rosa

Ao todo são 10 hectares de plantação da uva catawba pro todo o terreno. A poda acontece em agosto e a colheita entre novembro e dezembro. Como nossa visita foi em janeiro, não conseguimos ver as uvas (só essa uvinha que estava lá para nos presentear com sua presença), mas já fica anotado na nossa agenda para voltarmos nessa época.

Agora vamos continuar nosso tour, aprendendo e conhecendo a área de produção do vinho. Existem muitas máquinas, entre elas a desengaçadeira (que separa os talos da uva – no caso de uvas finas) e a
prensa (que vai extrair o suco das uvas para começar o processo do vinho).

Depois disso, vai para grandes tanques de fermentação, onde fica de quatro a cinco dias. Na sequência, separa-se a parte sólida do líquido e fica por mais seis meses de fermentação em tanques menores e só depois é que vai para a garrafa. No caso dos espumantes, a garrafa deve ficar deitada por 90 dias e, posteriormente, permanecer de 30 a 180 dias de cabeça pra baixo nos pupitres, nos quais ela é girada a 180º (meia-volta) todos os dias.

Também tivemos a oportunidade de conhecer uma outra forma de produção de vinho, na qual o armazenamento se dá em bombonas de vidro, que são toneis de vidro que ficam ao ar livre, embaixo de uma jabuticabeira, sendo influenciados pelas intempéries do tempo, o que proporcionará diferentes sabores ao vinho.

Esse sistema de bombonas de vidro é bastante utilizado em Portugal e na Espanha e permite a produção de um vinho natural, que na Vinícola Saccomani foi batizado de Vinho Macedonia, que em italiano significa “mescla de frutas”, por ter um sabor mais frutado. Lembrando que o vinho fica de janeiro a novembro armazenado nesses toneis.

Agora vamos vivenciar a “Experiência” mais aguardada do passeio, que é a técnica “Dègorgement“, que consiste na limpeza do espumante. Lembra que falei anteriormente que as garrafas de espumante ficam de cabeça pra baixo nos pupitres por vários meses? Com isso se cria uma borra perto da boca da garrafa e essa técnica que vamos aprender agora, faz, justamente, essa limpeza. Para isso, a garrafa precisar ficar alguns minutos de cabeça pra baixo no gelo com sal e grapa (que é uma bebida feita pela destilação dos bagaços da uva).

Com o Pupitre e uma água para limpar o paladar antes da degustação…

Quando já atingiu a temperatura adequada, vai encaixar a garrafa nesse aparelho para expelir a tampa e a borra, deixando o espumante limpíssimo. Primeiramente, o Eduardo nos explicou e demonstrou o procedimento e em seguida nos colocou para praticar. Foi um experiência muito divertida!!!! Depois dessa limpeza, a garrafa é completada e lacrada, ficando pronto o Espumante Nature feito da Uva Catawba que fica nessa cor linda, se destacando nas embalagens transparentes para a venda.

E para dar um toque ainda mais especial à degustação, o Eduardo usou a técnica “Sabrage” ou sabragem (que utiliza um sabre ou facão) para abrir o espumante!!! Realmente esse tour merece um brinde!!!

Finalizando essa parte do tour, chegou a hora da harmonização e do Eduardo mostrar seus dotes culinários, tanto que ele mesmo foi para o fogão a lenha providenciar a refeição, nessa hora ele estava preparando o porco embebedado no vinho para servir com a bruschetta junto com a polenta frita e uma saladinha como entrada e também deu uma olhada no caldeirão para ver como estava o caldo para a preparação dos risotos.

A Área do Restaurante é bem ampla, além da parte do fogão a lenha, tem o bar e um espaço bem aconchegante onde fica a lareira.

Se você não quiser fazer o Tour Guiado e o “Dègorgement”, você pode desfrutar da área verde da Vinícola e ir direto para o Restaurante, que foi o que fez a família da Querida Nina, que estava completando 7 anos!!! Mais uma coisa diferente na Vinícola Saccomani, é o rodízio. Você já deve ter ido em rodízio de carnes, de comida japonesa, de pizza, entre outros, mas acredito que Rodízio de Risotos vai ser uma novidade pra você, como foi pra mim também!!! Foram servidos cinco tipos de risoto (seria servido o sexto tipo, mas como todos já estavam satisfeitos preferiram guardar espaço para a sobremesa), sempre intercalando opções vegetarianas com opções de proteína animal. A sequência no nosso dia foi: risoto de alho poró, costelinha de porco, abóbora cabotia, napolitano de presunto parma e quatro queijos. E a sobremesa foi sorvete de creme com geleia de uva. Tudo estava maravilhoso!!!!

E para acompanhar os risotos, você pode beber o Espumante que acabou de limpar (no evento já está incluso uma garrafa por pessoa) e se você for o motorista da vez ou não puder beber, não se preocupe, que eles tem um delicioso Suco de Uva que combina muito bem com os pratos servidos!

E pra fechar nosso passeio com chave de ouro, tivemos a oportunidade de ver esses Esquilos super fofuchos e lindos!!!! O que nos fez lembrar do Canadá, onde eles adoram passear pelas praças e parques. Uma viagem super estilosa pela “Arte da Moda – Histórias Criativas” no Farol

Você já deve ter ouvido falar que “A Arte imita a vida”, mas sabia que a Arte é bem mais abrangente, tem muitas outras funções e pode até revolucionar a Moda? Para entender melhor essa influência, te convido a embarcar comigo nessa Viagem Super Estilosa pela Arte da Moda, repleta de Histórias Criativas no Farol Santander.

Antes de começarmos nosso tour fashion, logo na entrada, já fomos recebidos com muito carinho pela Patrícia Audi (vice-presidente executiva de Comunicação, Marketing, Relações Institucionais e Sustentabilidade do Santander Brasil) que falou sobre a Exposição, e como “A Arte da Moda” vem a coroar todo o engajamento e apoio que o grupo Santander disponibiliza ao longo de toda a cadeia produtiva, desde a plantação do algodão até o consumidor final. Ela também nos contou sobre todos os protocolos de segurança que estão sendo adotados para garantir que visita ao Farol seja bem aproveitada.

Entre essas medidas de segurança, estão o tapete sanitizante na entrada, aferição de temperatura, uso obrigatório de máscara, dispensers de álcool gel espalhados pelo prédio e indicações para distanciamento social. Além de ocupação reduzida para 40 % da capacidade e redução do horário de funcionamento do Farol Santander (agora é das 11h às 19h de segunda a sexta).

Ainda no térreo, tivemos a oportunidade de conhecer a Giselle Padoin, que é a curadora da exposição, um doce de pessoa e que nos deu uma verdadeira aula sobre a História da Moda e como esta foi influenciada pelas artes. Além de compartilhar conosco os desafios para montar a Exposição em tempos de pandemia e como é gratificante quando eles são superados e se chega ao resultado final do projeto com uma Mostra tão caprichosa e feita com tanto carinho por todos os envolvidos como essa.

Agora sim, vamos nos dirigir para o 20° andar, que juntamente com 19° andar, abrigam a Exposição “A Arte da Moda – Histórias Criativas”, que nos apresenta as relações entre a arte e a moda, de Paris ao Brasil, através de um acervo de aproximadamente 170 itens, com peças da Tarsila do Amaral, Coco Channel, Coleção Rhodia, entre outros itens.

Logo que chegamos no 20°andar somos recepcionados por essa linda pintura, trata-se da obra “O Vestido Verde” (1949), do artista gaúcho João Fahrion, que já nos prepara para o que nos espera na Exposição. Ele fez várias ilustrações de moda e era conhecido por retratar os bastidores desse universo.

Olhando para o lado esquerdo nos deparamos com a Linha do Tempo da Moda, que nos mostra toda a evolução da moda francesa e brasileira e seus grandes nomes desde o final do Século XIX até os dias atuais, como o estilista francês Paul Poiret, que fez o vestido de noiva da Tarsila do Amaral (que vou te mostrar mais pra frente) e que foi um dos grandes responsáveis pela mudança de padrão de beleza feminina da mulher flor (com o uso de corselet apertado) para a silhueta coluna (com os vestidos inspirados no Império Napoleônico). Nessa linha do tempo também estão Yves Saint Laurent que se inspirou na arte para criar essas bijuterias nos anos 60 e 70 e que fazem parte da coleção particular de Rose Benedetti; Zuzu Angel; Jean Paul-Gaultier; Issey Miyake, entre muitos outros.

Um fato marcante da Influência da Arte na Moda foi a chegada do Ballet Russo em Paris na década de 1920, que promoveu a união das artes para criar cenários, figurinos e principalmente o uso de cores mais vibrantes na moda, além de impactar o estilista Paul Poiret, que convidou artistas pra trabalhar no seu atelier. Nessa época, as capas da Revista Vogue passaram a ser ilustradas por artistas no estilo Art Déco, unindo ilustração e moda!

Também estão em exposição no 20°andar um Corset da Coleção “A Costura do Invisível”, de Jum Nakao e Itens Pessoais da famosa Estilista Coco Chanel, que revolucionou a moda propondo o uso de calças e mais conforto nas roupas femininas, motivada, principalmente, pelo fato das mulheres terem que trabalhar no período pós-guerra e necessitarem de roupas mais práticas para isso, sem, contudo, perderem a feminilidade. Entre seus objetos expostos, podemos encontrar o perfume “Chanel nº 5”, sapato, bolsa, camélias, o livro Madame Bovary¸ que muito a inspirou, entre outros itens.

E falando em objetos pessoais de mulheres a frente de seu tempo, não poderia deixar de te mostrar a parte da Exposição dedicada à Tarsila do Amaral, que traz Peças do seu Vestido de Casamento, que foi confeccionado pelo estilista Paul Poiret (que já mencionei anteriormente) a partir da cauda do vestido da sogra dela (a mãe do Oswald de Andrade). Além da capa do vestido e do corset, ainda estão expostos caderneta de anotações, leque, pinceis e paleta de cores da Tarsila, entre outros itens e seu Quadro Autorretrato, “Manteau Rouge” (1923).

Ainda nesse andar, é possível conhecer três looks da coleção Christian Dior Couture, como esse maravilhoso Vestido Vermelho (Red Dress) do estilista britânico Bill Gaytten, além de fotos do Ateliê DIOR, realizadas pelo fotógrafo francês Gérard Uféras e quatro vídeos dos bastidores dos ateliês de alta-costura.

E por falar em ateliê, também é possível (mediante agendamento prévio para datas específicas) participar do Ateliê de Bordados com a designer Fernanda Nadal, para bordar essa grande tela que nos remete ao Pantanal, tendo como símbolo o Tuiuiú e o Ipê Amarelo, e cujo bordado original também está exposto, juntamente com outras amostras do bordado Lunéville, uma técnica francesa de alta-costura utilizadas por ela.

A Exposição continua no 19°andar, com uma linda mostra da Coleção Rhodia das décadas 60 e 70, vale lembrar que a partir dessa época, e por iniciativa da Rhodia (empresa francesa), a moda brasileira passou a se unir com a arte e criar looks explorando características genuinamente brasileiras. Além dos vestidos, estão em exposição obras de artistas que inspiraram estampas para a Rhodia e também modelos do tropicalismo.

Outra Coleção exposta nesse andar é a da Sissa Brasil, da designer Alessandra Affonso Ferreira, que utiliza materiais reciclados e sobras de tecidos para montar seus looks, que são confeccionados em parceria com Renato Imbroisi, através de tecelagem manual em Muquém/MG. E para representar esse trabalho de tecelagem, teve até demonstração no tear.

Falando em reaproveitamento de materiais, a Exposição chama a atenção para pensarmos em sustentabilidade e como será o Futuro da Moda, que, segundo a designer mineira Gláucia Froes, poderá contar com a imprensão 3D.

Outra Exposição Imersiva que garante muita diversão para a garotada é “O Jardim das Maravilhas de Miró”, que foi inspirada nas obras da série “Maravilhas com Variações Acrósticas no Jardim de Miró”, do poeta espanhol Rafael Alberti. Essa mostra está no 24° andar e vai estar disponível para a visitação até o dia 15 de agosto de 2021.

ExFinito – Um Labirinto de Possibilidades no Farol

Já imaginou caminhar por um labirinto onde todos os caminhos te levam a algum lugar e ao invés de se “perder”, a ideia é se “encontrar”? Essa é a proposta da nova Exposição do Farol Santander: “ExFinito”. Vamos explorar essas possibilidades?

Mas antes de começarmos a visita, fomos recebidos com muito carinho pela Patrícia Audi (vice-presidente executiva de Comunicação, Marketing, Relações Institucionais e Sustentabilidade do Santander Brasil) no Café do 26°Andar, onde ela nos contou alguns detalhes da Exposição e também nos passou todas as informações sobre os protocolos de segurança que estão sendo adotados para garantir que visita ao Farol seja bem tranquila.

Entre essas medidas de segurança, estão o tapete sanitizante na entrada, aferição de temperatura, uso obrigatório de máscara, dispensers de álcool gel espalhados pelo prédio e indicações para distanciamento social. Além de redução do horário de funcionamento do Farol Santander (agora é das 13h às 19h de terça a domingo).

A Exposição ExFinito, que está instalada no 22º andar do Farol Santander, é a primeira grande mostra individual que o artista contemporâneo chileno Iván Navarro está expondo no Brasil. Lembrando que a mostra conta com a colaboração da artista visual e também companheira de Iván Navarro, Courtney Smith e com a curadoria de Marcello Dantas, que nos atenta para a importância da arte provocativa, para nos deixarmos envolver pelas sensações que ela nos proporciona e viajarmos nesse universo de finitude no infinito.

Essa Exposição ExFinito conta com 14 obras inéditas espalhadas por um labirinto no 22º andar e que foram produzidas especialmente para essa mostra e também a Instalação “Escada (Caixa d’Água)”, que já ficou exposta no Madison Square em Nova York e agora está na Praça Antônio Prado (quase em frente à entrada do Farol Santander). Não deixe de prestar atenção nela antes ou depois de entrar no Farol, é uma ótima oportunidade de conhecermos uma obra internacional, que já encantou outras pessoas em outro lugar do mundo e que agora está aqui a nossa disposição.

Enquanto contempla a Instalação “Escada (Caixa d’Água)”, aproveite para imaginar onde essa escada poderia nos levar… Seria uma janela pra uma forma de escape? Uma escada pra levar a uma nova dimensão? Ou outras inúmeras possibilidades, é só deixar por conta da criatividade e se divertir…

Agora voltando para a parte interna da Exposição ExFinito, vamos percorrer esse labirinto com a ideia do artista Iván Navarro de que a obra é para ser vivida e não apenas contemplada, deixando a parte sensorial nos conduzir nessa aventura de entrar numa nova era…

A Exposição ExFinito reflete bem o que estamos vivendo neste momento, uma passagem de era, um labirinto, onde a cada passo podemos encontrar um novo caminho e cada porta que se abre temos um desconhecido a explorar.

Como é possível perceber, na Exposição ExFinito, o artista Iván Navaro utiliza elementos como espelhos, luzes, vidros e, principalmente, a eletricidade para envolver o público no seu trabalho, criando um jogo entre o que existe realmente e o que está sendo visualizado, nos fazendo embarcar na ilusão de um infinito, nos mostrando que o invisível é sensível e não só porque não podemos vê-lo (como no caso da eletricidade) não significa que não exista…

Outro ponto bem marcante da Exposição ExFinito é que cada pessoa pode percorrer o labirinto do seu jeito, não existe uma regra de onde ir, nem o que é certo e o que é errado e as obras só existem com as pessoas através da luz e do caminho, simbolizando como cada um é importante para construir o todo. . Vale ressaltar também que a “repetição” das obras é orgânica e que as luzes podem se perder no vazio, tudo isso feito propositalmente para simbolizar que nem tudo que se repete é constante e que podemos ampliar nossa sensibilidade se olharmos com mais atenção para os detalhes da “repetição” do nosso dia a dia.

Meu convite de hoje é para que você viaje comigo Pelos Caminhos de São Lourenço, vamos conhecer essa linda cidade que faz parte do Circuito das Águas de Minas Gerais e está a cerca de 300 km de distância da Capital de São Paulo.

Mas além das propriedades terapêuticas de suas águas, São Lourenço também nos proporciona roteiros ricos em conhecimento e muita diversão em sua vida noturna. Me acompanha nesse tour?

Roteiro do Primeiro Dia – Centro de São Lourenço / Calçadão / Orelhões Divertidos

Mais uma vez, meus companheiros de viagem foram meus pais e minha irmã, um verdadeiro presente de Deus poder viajar com a família depois de tanto tempo de isolamento social por conta da pandemia!!! Muita GRATIDÃO por tudo!!!!

Família na Praça Central de São Lourenço

Saímos de São Paulo numa quinta-feira por volta das 10h30 e chegamos em São Lourenço perto das 16h, demoramos mais porque ainda paramos no caminho pra almoçar (estou comentando, só pra você ter uma ideia e ir se programando, caso resolva fazer uma pausa no trajeto). Ficamos hospedados na AFPESP (Associação dos Funcionários Públicos do Estado de São Paulo), mas se você não for associado ou convidado de um associado, não se preocupe, no centro tem várias opções de hotéis. Com certeza você vai encontrar algum que seja do seu agrado. E se for funcionário público associado aproveite para usufruir dessa Unidade de Lazer.

Como estamos em época de pandemia, vale lembrar que eles estão seguindo todos os protocolos de segurança para garantir que nossa estada seja tranquila e confortável.

Meus pais preferiram ficar descansando um pouco e minha irmã e eu fomos explorar a cidade. A distância entre a Associação e o Centro da Cidade é cerca de 1,5 km, para otimizar o tempo fomos de carro, mas se quiser ir a pé o percurso dura cerca de trinta minutos. Chegando ao Centro, é possível estacionar o carro nas ruas ou no estacionamento rotativo ao lado do Parque das Águas e eles usam o sistema “Faixa Azul” (bem parecido com o “Zona Azul” aqui de São Paulo), no qual você compra o ticket com os vendedores no valor de R$ 3,00 por um período de duas horas e se precisar de mais tempo é só ir renovando os bilhetes.

No Centro de São Lourenço, encontramos uma Charmosa Praça, com Chafariz, Imagem de Nhá Chica, Fonte, Réplica de Trator, entre muitos outros pontos instagramáveis que vão fazer sucesso nas suas redes sociais.

E do outro lado da rua, fica o famoso Calçadão de São Lourenço, que é uma via só para pedestres, repleto de restaurantes e lojas, além da linda Fonte Anina Palmieri e do Orelhão de Onça (não foi intencional, mas combinou com minha máscara, somos praticamente da mesma família…).

Falando em orelhão, uma das marcas da cidade são os Orelhões Divertidos espalhados por toda parte, além desse da Onça, na Praça em frente ao Calçadão, nos deparamos com um Tucano e na rua de trás vimos a Garrafa da Água Mineral São Lourenço. Perto da Estação Ferroviária, tem um Jacaré e uma Garça e próximo ao Teleférico, um Peixe. Esses foram alguns que tivemos a oportunidade de conhecer, se você viu mais algum, nos conte nos comentários para que possamos visitar de uma próxima vez.

Vale lembrar que nessa região central de São Lourenço encontram-se várias lojas de doces mineiros, além de queijos e cachaças. Tenho quase certeza que você não vai resistir… E pra quem gosta de comprinhas, tem a Feira das Malhas Aldeia Vila Verde.

Roteiro do Segundo Dia – Estação Ferroviária / Parque das Águas / Basílica de São Lourenço / Trenzinho da Alegria / Teleférico / Soberanno Gastrobar e Bistrô

Começamos nosso passeio de hoje visitando a Estação Ferroviária de São Lourenço, que foi construída em 1925 em estilo inglês e totalmente recuperada posteriormente e de onde parte o Trem das Águas com destino à Soledade de Minas (tour que vamos fazer amanhã, mas fomos na Estação hoje comprar os ingressos que já tinha deixado reservado para garantir as vagas). Mesmo sendo uma passadinha rápida, não podia deixar de tirar umas fotinhos para registrar o momento…

Dali seguimos para o Parque das Águas, que é um dos principais pontos turísticos da cidade, um verdadeiro cartão-postal de São Lourenço!!! Além da beleza de sua área verde de mais de 400 mil metros quadrados, o Parque é famoso pelas propriedades terapêuticas das águas de suas nove fontes.

Tudo começou no século XIX quando foi descoberta uma nascente de água gasosa e com poder de cura na fazenda de João Francisco Viana, que a vendeu para um comendador que fundou a Cia. das Águas Minerais de São Lourenço e foi por conta dessa empresa que o povoado foi crescendo e se desenvolvendo tornando-se o Município de São Lourenço em 1927. Para ilustrar essa cumplicidade entre o Parque e a Cidade tem esse lindo Letreiro às margens do lago, dentro do Parque das Águas.

A primeira fonte a ser captada foi a Fonte Oriente, que é naturalmente gasosa e indicada para problemas renais, digestivos, além de ser desintoxicante. Ela passou a ser engarrafada em 1890 e atualmente é comercializada em todo o Brasil. Tivemos a oportunidade de provar dessa água diretamente da fonte e também a engarrafada.

Outra fonte bem famosa no Parque das Águas é a Fonte Vichy¸que é indicada para quem tem problemas gástricos e renais e só existem duas fontes no mundo que tem essas propriedades, essa aqui e a outra que está na cidade francesa de Vichy (por isso a daqui recebeu esse nome e a da França é chamada de Fonte São Lourenço).

Essa fonte que vou te mostrar agora tenho certeza que você vai querer provar a água, estou falando da Fonte Carbogasosa (José Carlos de Andrade), que é indicada para hipertensão arterial, depressão e estresse. Nada pessoal, mas minha irmã já fez questão de encher um galão de dois litros pra levar pra casa…

Outra fonte bem procurada no Parque das Águas é a Fonte Ferruginosa, que por conter muito ferro é indicada para anemia, anorexia e astenia. Seu gosto é bem forte e deve ser ingerida com moderação.

Também provamos a água da Fonte Alcalina, que é indicada para úlceras gastroduodenais, uricemias, eliminação de ácido úrico e cálculos renais, entre outras funções. Vale lembrar que o Parque das Águas ainda conta com mais quatro fontes que estavam em manutenção quando da nossa visita, se quando você for visitar, elas já estiverem funcionando compartilhe nos comentários como foi sua experiência e qual a que mais gostou.

O Parque das Águas tem um Balneário, que no momento por conta da pandemia só está funcionando com a parte de massagens. Mas assim que tudo isso passar, vai voltar a oferecer os banhos com águas terapêuticas. Tanto as fontes quanto o balneário fazem parte do “Circuito Saúde” do Parque.

Outro circuito do Parque das Águas é o “Circuito Fé”, que engloba a Igreja Ermida Bom Jesus do Monte (que estava fechada por conta da pandemia), a Gruta de Nossa Senhora dos Remédios e a Imagem do Sagrado Coração de Jesus! Que Eles nos abençoem sempre!!!! Também achei um charme a Catedral de Bambu!

O Parque das Águas também tem o “Circuito Zen”, que conta com Espaço Zen, Cristais e Pedras de Energia, como esse Pilar de Energia 2, que a pessoa pode abraçar a pedra para sentir a energia que essa capta da terra e envia para o cosmo… E o Jardim Japonês, que fica na parte conhecida como Parque II, que foi construída posteriormente e o acesso se dá pode meio de um túnel que passa por baixo da Rua Saturnino da Veiga. Essa parte do Parque das Águas também possui área para prática de esportes e outras atividades.

E para fechar a rota dos circuitos, conhecemos o “Circuito Família”¸ que conta, entre outras atividades, com o Passeio de Pedalinho até a Ilha dos Amores e a Trilha do Pau-Brasil¸ que nos presenteia com essa linda paisagem e a possibilidade de vermos de perto uma Árvore de Pau-Brasil¸ que foi plantada pelo ex-presidente Getúlio Vargas na década de 1930.

O ingresso para o Parque das Águas custa R$12,00 para só uma entrada ou R$ 20,00 com direito a um retorno no mesmo dia (caso você queira sair e depois voltar) e ambos os valores tem desconto de meia-entrada. O Parque também conta com restaurante, lanchonetes e lojinhas e é administrado pela Minalba Brasil, que também é a responsável pelo engarrafamento e distribuição da Água São Lourenço. Saindo do parque, fomos passear pelo centro e conhecer a Igreja Matriz da cidade, também chamada de Basílica de São Lourenço ou Paróquia de São Lourenço Mártir, que teve sua construção iniciada na década de 1930, com toda a participação e ajuda da comunidade e inaugurada em 1948.

Na Praça em frente à escadaria da Paróquia de São Lourenço Mártir, encontra-se uma escultura de São Francisco de Assis, que foi inaugurada em 1957 em homenagem aos 25 anos da chegada dos Franciscanos à cidade e também para atender a um pedido do ex-presidente Getúlio Vargas, que era devoto de São Francisco de Assis. Vale lembrar que em 2016 a Paróquia recebeu o título de Basílica Menor de São Lourenço Mártir. Também aproveitamos para fazer o passeio no Trenzinho da Alegria, que vai percorrendo os pontos turísticos do Centro de São Lourenço, durante o período de uma hora, com direito a uma paradinha na Laticínios Miramar (não poderíamos deixar de tirar fotinho com essa vaquinha fofa…). Os ingressos para esse tour custam R$ 15,00 e tem horário específico, nós fizemos o passeio das 15h. Como ele sai em frente ao Parque das Águas, vale a pena dar uma passadinha por lá para confirmar os horários de partida.

Quando voltamos desse tour, meus pais ficaram na Praça e minha irmã e eu fomos no Teleférico São Lourenço, que fica na Av. Dom Pedro II, 35, também ali no Centro da cidade, e os ingressos de ida e volta custam R$ 20,00. Já vou te adiantando que esse passeio é para os corajosos porque é bem alto, o trajeto é longo (passa sobre o rio, estrada e até linha de trem) e as cadeirinhas são duplas, porém abertas. E minha dica é que você vá com um calçado bem preso ao pé porque eu fui de sapatilha e fiquei com medo dela cair durante o trajeto. Ao chegar no topo, nos deparamos com um Mirante que nos proporcionou uma linda vista da cidade!!!

E pra fechar com chave de ouro esse dia tão incrível, nada melhor que curtir a noite num barzinho, não é mesmo? Mas não poderia ser um bar comum, teria que ser especial e realmente foi!!! Fomos comemorar o aniversário da minha irmã no Soberanno Gastrobar e Bistrô!!!

Até tivemos uma aula sobre como preparar um excelente café com o Gabriel numa experiência única de tomar café na taça e um show na finalização do Crème Brûlée com o Ernane, feito com muito carinho e como cortesia para a Aniversariante. Fala a verdade, não é realmente maravilhoso sermos recepcionados na cidade dessa forma?

Roteiro do Terceiro Dia – Rota do Café Especial / Arcanjo Rafael Café / Trem das Águas / Soledade de Minas / Circuito das Cervejas

Hoje o dia também será bem agitado, vamos começar logo cedo com a Rota do Café Especial, que é um tour muito interessante, principalmente para os amantes de café como eu, e tem a missão nos mostrar todo o processo pelo qual passa o café desde a plantação até chegar na xícara. Me acompanha nessa experiência?

O passeio Rota do Café Especial tem duração de quatro horas (das 8h30 às 12h30) e para saber mais detalhes e fazer sua reserva é só acessar o site: https://uniquecafes.com.br/rota-do-cafe/#passeios. Quem foi nos buscar no hotel e nos conduziu nessa jornada foi a guia Vanessa, uma excelente profissional, que entende muito de café e tem prazer de transmitir seu conhecimento. Ela nos contou desde a origem do café, com o pastor de cabras chamado Kaldi que vivia na região de Kaffa na Etiópia e que observou que seus animais ficavam mais agitados quando comiam as folhas do café, então experimentou o fruto e teve a mesma sensação. Kaldi contou para um monge que colocou o café em infusão e gostou da experiência e começou a cultivá-lo, porém foi proibido por ser considerada uma bebida afrodisíaca. Mais tarde o café foi popularizado pelo árabes e de onde vem o nome “café” originário das palavras “qahwa” ou “kahve” que significam “vinho”, por isso o café era conhecido como “vinho da Arábia”.

Conhecendo de perto a plantação de café especial

Toda essa história foi sendo contada no percurso entre São Lourenço e sua vizinha, Carmo de Minas, onde ficam as plantações de café. O cultivo de café comum nessa cidade começou em 1900 por iniciativa de Francisco Dias de Castro e o do café especial no início dos anos 2000. E para garantir toda a excelência do café especial, tudo é feito com muito zelo e cuidado, começando pelo tipo de café a ser cultivado, como o arábica (por exemplo, que é conhecido como cafe de montanha por necessitar de uma altitude acima de 900m), a altitude também é muito importante, fazendo com que os cafés mais altos sejam os melhores, também a colheita manual e muitos outros detalhes e curiosidades que a Vanessa nos explicou enquanto contemplávamos essa vista incrível!!! A Rota do Café Especial nos levou pra visitar a plantação de café especial que fica no Sítio da Torre, onde tivemos a oportunidade de apreciar essa Linda Vista do Mirante, e também conhecer o Maquinário e Local de Secagem do Café, além da diferença dos grãos de café comum e do especial.

Depois dessa visita ao Sítio, seguimos para a Unique Cafés para conhecer o processo de torra do café, que foi conduzido pelo Luiz Felipe que também nos deu uma aula sobre café, destacando que é no momento da torra que você destaca o que quer no café, inclusive seu nível de doçura.

E ao final dessa demonstração, passamos para o momento que você estava esperando: a Degustação do Café, que foi direcionado pela Vanessa, começando pela prova do café comum e do especial para percebermos a diferença e depois pelos Cafés Especiais da Unique: o Frutado, o Bourbon Amarelo e o Moca, sendo o primeiro de sabor mais suave, o segundo intermediário e o terceiro mais forte, todos eles sendo preparados pelo método da Prensa Francesa, que também contribui para acentuar os sabores. Realmente dá pra notar a diferença e a qualidade do café. Também tinha uma mesa com delícias para acompanhar o café que estavam maravilhosas!!!

Com certeza, depois de todas essas informações, nossa forma de apreciar o café e valorizar todo o processo para que ele chegue até nossa xícara vai mudar. O Tour da Rota do Café Especial, termina na Unique Cafés, onde você pode desfrutar da Cafeteria e ainda aproveitar para levar pra casa esses cafés maravilhosos que acabou de degustar. Esse é um passeio que realmente vale a pena incluir no seu roteiro, mas caso não consiga, não deixe de visitar a Unique Cafés pra sentir todo esse sabor do café. Na parte da tarde, nosso passeio foi de Maria Fumaça, mas antes disso, na própria Estação Ferroviária, paramos no Arcanjo Rafael Café (https://www.facebook.com/arcanjorafaelcafe/ ou Instagram @arcanjorafael)para experimentarmos a famosa Broa Pau-a-Pique, que é assada na palha de bananeira e feita com várias especiarias. É muito boa mesmo!!! Sem contarque o atendimento foi incrível, o Tainan e toda a equipe foram super gentis e atenciosos conosco!!!

No Arcanjo Rafael Café também tivemos a oportunidade de conhecer o Felipe Borges, que nos apresentou a Cachaça Sebastião Borges, produzida pela sua família desde 1958 e uma novidade que é o Vinho de Amora, isso mesmo, o vinho é feito de amora e não de uva. Ele nos explicou todo seu processo de produção durante a degustação e minha família super aprovou (só lembrando que, pra variar, sou a motorista da vez e não degustei). O papo e a degustação estavam agradáveis, mas tivemos que nos despedir porque o trem estava prestes a partir… Até parece cena de filme, não é mesmo? E assim aconteceu… Às 14h30 embarcamos no Trem das Águas com destino a Soledade de Minas…

Andar no Trem das Águas é realmente uma volta ao passado, desde o trem em si que é tracionado por uma locomotiva a vapor de 1927, passando pelos músicos que nos animam durante a viagem, pelas pessoas que vão acenando por onde o trem passa, até as belas paisagens às margens do Rio Verde desse percurso de 10 km até chegar no destino. Esse passeio do Trem das Águas dura duas horas, incluindo o trajeto de trem e a parada em Soledade. O trem parte da Estação de São Lourenço aos sábados às 10h e às 14h30 e aos domingos às 10h. É bom reservar com antecedência para garantir o lugar e você pode fazer como eu, e buscar os ingressos no dia anterior para não precisar chegar com uma hora de antecedência na estação no dia do embarque para segurar a reserva. Ao chegar no nosso destino, desembarcamos na Estação de Soledade de Minas que foi construída em 1884 e recuperada em 2015, contando com uma Feira de Artesanato e Guloseimas para recepcionar os turistas, além dessa linda Cascata em frente à estação que não pode ficar fora dos seus registros fotográficos. A cidade de Soledade de Minas desenvolveu um importante papel na época do auge ferroviário, porque possuía um dos principais entroncamentos ferroviários do Sul de Minas para escoamento de produção. Depois dessa parada de uns 30 minutos, pegamos o Trem das Águas para voltarmos a São Lourenço.

Chegando a São Lourenço, fomos celebrar esse dia tão gratificante no Circuito das Cervejas, que é um dos bares mais famosos da cidade e fica ali no Centro (Av. Comendador Costa, 603). No Circuito você encontra cervejas especiais de vários lugares, para agradar a todos os paladares, além de um menu que informa qual o tipo de cerveja que mais harmoniza com os petiscos e os pratos, para que a experiência seja aproveitada ao máximo.

E no Circuito das Cervejas, tivemos a oportunidade de encontrar as Cervejas Monte Verde, da nossa querida amiga Sarah e que futuramente iremos fazer uma postagem especial mostrando a visita à fábrica lá em Monte Verde. E para fazer jus ao nome, o circuito começou com a Pilsen, que é puro malte clara e mais leve, seguindo pela Weiss, que é de trigo e tem um sabor mais frutado e finalizando com a Ipa Session, que é puro malte extra e mais encorpada, lembrando que todas foram consumidas em copos específicos para acentuar os sabores, conforme a orientação da Equipe do Circuito, que também foi muito gentil conosco!!!

Mas nem só de cerveja vive o Circuito das Cervejas, também tem bebidas sem álcool, inclusive essa Limonada Gasosa feita com a Água São Lourenço, que estava ótima!!! Roteiro do Quarto Dia – Baependi : Santuário de Nossa Senhora da Conceição e Nhá Chica / Memorial e Casa de Nhá Chica / Igreja Matriz de Nossa Senhora do Montserrat e Praça Central

Nosso passeio de hoje vai ser para uma cidade vizinha, vamos até Baependi¸ que fica a pouco mais de 30 km de distância de São Lourenço. Vamos até lá visitar o Santuário de Nossa Senhora da Conceição e Nhá Chica para pagar uma promessa em agradecimento por uma benção alcançada por intercessão de Nhá Chica!!! Muita Gratidão a Nhá Chica e a Nossa Senhora por nos permitir estarmos aqui neste momento!!!!

Santuário de Nossa Senhora da Conceição e Nhá Chica

O Santuário de Nossa Senhora da Conceição (também conhecido como Igreja ou Santuário de Nhá Chica) começou a ser construído em 1867 por iniciativa da própria Nhá Chica que queria construir uma Capela em homenagem à Nossa Senhora, deixando-a quase pronta quando faleceu em 1895. O Santuário foi crescendo, sua arquitetura segue o estilo moderno e ele recebe milhões de fiéis todo ano!!!

No Santuário de Nossa Senhora da Conceição e Nhá Chica também encontramos essa linda imagem de Nhá Chica e uma urna com seus restos mortais. Ao lado do Santuário, fica o Instituto Nhá Chica que desenvolve um importante trabalho social na cidade, também o Memorial Nhá Chica que nos conta a história de Nhá Chica e da construção do Santuário através de seu acervo, composto inclusive de pertences pessoais dela, tudo feito com muito carinho e simplicidade seguindo os exemplos de Nhá Chica.

Também anexo ao Santuário fica a Casa de Nhá Chica, local onde ela residia e também atendia às pessoas que a procuravam em busca de conselhos e orações. Não é permitido fotografar no interior da casa, mas pela fachada, você já pode sentir a paz e a energia positiva desse lugar.

Mas você deve estar se perguntando, quem é Nhá Chica? Mais precisamente Francisca de Paula de Jesus (conhecida como Nhá Chica) nasceu no ano de 1810 em São João Del Rei/MG, mas foi pra Baependi ainda criança, onde se dedicou à oração e à caridade, e sempre era procurada pelas pessoas pedindo para que Nhá Chica rezasse por elas, e através de sua intercessão alcançavam de Deus vários milagres. Nhá Chica faleceu em 14 de junho de 1895 e foi beatificada em 04 de maio de 2013. Nós também pedimos a intercessão de Nhá Chica e alcançamos muitas graças de Deus!!!! Então neste momento, independentemente de sua religião, sugiro que olhe a foto a Nhá Chica e abra seu coração pra ela, pedindo para que essa Grande Amiga leve suas preces a Deus!!! Tenho certeza que muitas bençãos virão!!! Que Nhá Chica abençoe a todos nós!!!

Está em construção uma Ampliação do Santuário, para acolher um número bem maior de fiéis. Só pela maquete dá pra ter uma ideia de como ficará bonito e visitando a parte que já está pronta temos certeza disso!!! Sem falar nessa vista incrível de lá!!!!

Saindo dali, fomos conhecer a Igreja Matriz de Nossa Senhora do Montserrat foi construída no século XVIII em estilo predominantemente barroco, com muitos detalhes em madeira entalhada. Como estava tendo missa, não pude tirar foto, mas ela é realmente muito bonita. Se tiver a oportunidade, vá visitar. Até o seu exterior chama a atenção com a construção aparente.

Em frente à Igreja Matriz fica a Praça Central de Baependi, que também é muito charmosa.

Along the Paths of São Lourenço

My invitation today is for you to travel with me along The Paths of São Lourenço, we will visit this beautiful city that is part of the Water Tourist Circuit of Minas Gerais and is about 186 miles away from the Capital of São Paulo.

But in addition to the therapeutic properties of its waters, São Lourenço also provides us with routes rich in knowledge and a lot of fun in its nightlife. Will you accompany me on this tour?

First Day Itinerary – São Lourenço Center / Boardwalk / Fun PubIic Phones

Once again, my traveling companions were my parents and my sister, a real gift from God to be able to travel with the family after so long of social isolation due to the pandemic!!! GRATITUDE for everything!!!! We left São Paulo on a Thursday around 10:30 am and arrived in São Lourenço close to 4:00 pm, it took us longer because we still stopped on the way to lunch (I’m commenting, just so you can have an idea and go on programming if you decide to take a break on the route). We stayed at AFPESP (Association of Public Employees of the State of São Paulo), but if you are not a member or guest of an associate, don’t worry, in the center you have several options for hotels. You will surely find one that you like. And if you are an associated public employee, take advantage of this Leisure Unit.

As we are in a pandemic season, it is worth remembering that they are following all safety protocols to ensure that our stay is smooth and comfortable.

My parents preferred to rest for a while and my sister and I went to explore the city. The distance between the Association and the City Center is about 1.5 km, to optimize the time we went by car, but if you want to go on foot the journey takes about thirty minutes. Arriving at the Center, it is possible to park the car on the streets or in the revolving parking lot next to Parque das Águas and they use the “Blue Belt” system, in which you buy the ticket with the sellers in the amount of R$ 3.00 for a period of two hours and if you need more time just renew the tickets.

In the Center of São Lourenço, we find a Charming Square, with Fountain, Image of Nhá Chica, Tractor, among many other instagramable points that will be successful on your social medias.

And on the other side of the street, there is the famous Boardwalk of São Lourenço, which is a pedestrian only street, full of restaurants and shops, in addition to the beautiful Fountain Anina Palmieri and Jaguar Pay Phone (it was not intentional, but it matched my mask , we are practically from the same family …).

Speaking of pay phones, one of the city’s hallmarks are the Fun Payphones scattered everywhere, in addition to the Jaguar, in the square in front of the Boardwalk, we came across a Toucan and in the back street we saw the Bottle of São Lourenço Mineral Water. Near the Railway Station, there is a Alligator and a Heron and next to the Cable Car, a Fish. These were some that we had the opportunity to meet, if you saw any more, tell us in the comments so that we can visit next time.

It is worth remembering that in this central region of São Lourenço there are several Candy Stores in addition to cheeses and sugarcane liquor. I’m almost sure that you will not resist … And for those who like to shop, there is the Clothing Fair Aldeia Vila Verde.

Second Day Itinerary – Railway Station / Water Park/ Basilica of São Lourenço / Joy Train / Cable Car / Soberanno Pub

We started our tour today by visiting the São Lourenço Railway Station, which was built in 1925 in English style and completely recovered afterwards and from where the Water Train goes to Soledade de Minas (tour that we will do tomorrow, but we went to the Station today buy the tickets that I had already reserved to guarantee the seats). Even though it was a quick pass, I’m taking some pictures to record the moment …

From there we proceed to Parque das Águas (Water Park) which is one of the main attractions in the city, a true postcard of São Lourenço!!! In addition to the beauty of its green area of more than 400 thousand square meters, the Park is famous for the therapeutic properties of the waters of its nine fountains.

It all started in the 19th century when a source of sparkling water with healing power was discovered on the João Francisco Viana farm, which sold it to a commander who founded the “Cia. Das Águas Minerais de São Lourenço” (or São Lourenço Mineral Water Company) and it was on account of this company that the village grew and developed, becoming the Municipality of São Lourenço in 1927. To illustrate this complicity between the Park and the City, there is this beautiful Sign by the lake, inside the Water Park.

The first fountain to be captured was Oriente Fountain, which is naturally gaseous and indicated for kidney and digestive problems, in addition to being detoxifying. It started to be bottled in 1890 and is currently marketed throughout Brazil. We had the opportunity to taste this water directly from the source and also bottled water.

Another very famous fountain in the Water Park is the Vichy Fountain, which is indicated for those with gastric and kidney problems and there are only two fountains in the world that have these properties, this one and the other one that is in the French city of Vichy (that’s why the one here received this name and that of France is called São Lourenço Fountain).

This fountain that I am going to show you now I am sure you will want to taste the water, I am talking about Carbogasosa Fountain (José Carlos de Andrade), which is indicated for high blood pressure, depression and stress. Nothing personal, but my sister already made sure to fill a two-liter canister to take home…

Another well-sought-after source in the Water Park is the Ferruginosa Fountain, which contains a lot of iron and is indicated for anemia, anorexia and asthenia. Its taste is very strong and should be taken in moderation.

We also tried the water from the Alcalina Fountain, which is indicated for gastroduodenal ulcers, uricemia, elimination of uric acid and kidney stones, among other functions. It is worth remembering that Water Park still has four more fountains that were under maintenance at the time of our visit, if at the time of your visit they are already working, share in the comments how your experience was and which one you liked the most.

Enjoy the time and the beautiful landscape of Water Park, to relax, enjoy its beautiful Gardens and also take lots of little pictures to post on social mideas in these various Instagramable Frames scattered throughout the park.

Water Park has a Spa, which at the moment because of the pandemic is only working with the massage part. But as soon as all of this is over, it will offer baths with therapeutic waters again. Both the fountains and the spa are part of the “Health Circuit” of the Park.

Another circuit of Water Park is the “Faith Circuit”, which includes the Ermida Bom Jesus do Monte Church (which was closed due to the pandemic), the Grotto of Nossa Senhora dos Remédios and the Image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus! May They always bless us!!!! I also found the Bamboo Cathedral charming!

Water Park also has the “Zen Circuit”, which has Zen Space, Crystals and Energy Stones, like this Energy Pillar 2, that the person can embrace the stone to feel the energy that it captures from the earth and sends to the cosmos … And the Japanese Garden, which is in the part known as Park II, which was built later and can be accessed through a tunnel that passes under Saturnino da Veiga Street. This part of Water Park also has an area for sports and other activities.

And to close the circuit route, we know the “Family Circuit” which has, among other activities, the Paddleboat to Island of Lovers and the Pau–Brasil Trail¸ that presents us with this beautiful landscape and the possibility to see up close a Pau–Brasil Tree that was planted by former President Getúlio Vargas in the 1930s.

The ticket to Water Park costs R$ 12.00 for just one entry or R$ 20.00 with the right to a return on the same day (if you want to leave and then return) and both values have a half-price discount. We opted for the one with the right to return. The Park also has a restaurant, snack bars and shops and is managed by Minalba Brasil, which is also responsible for bottling and distributing São Lourenço Water. Leaving the park, we went for a walk through the center and got to know the Mother Church of the city, also called Basilica of São Lourenço or Parish of São Lourenço Mártir, which had its construction started in the 1930s, with all the participation and help of the community and inaugurated in 1948.

In the square in front of the steps of the Parish of São Lourenço Mártir, there is a sculpture of São Francisco de Assis, which was inaugurated in 1957 in honor of the 25th anniversary of the arrival of the Franciscans in the city and also in response to a request from the former president Getúlio Vargas, who was a devotee of São Francisco de Assis. It is worth remembering that in 2016 the Parish received the title of Minor Basilica of São Lourenço Mártir. We also took the opportunity to take the ride on the Joy Train, which goes through the sights of the Center of São Lourenço, during the period of an hour, entitled to a stop at Dairy Miramar (we could not help taking a picture with this cute cow…). Tickets for this tour cost R$ 15.00 and have a specific time, we did the 3pm tour. As he leaves in front of Water Park, it is worth taking a stroll there to confirm departure times.

When we got back from this tour, my parents stayed at Central City Square and my sister and I went on the São Lourenço Cable Car, which is located at Avenue Dom Pedro II, 35, also in the city center, and round trip tickets cost R$ 20,00. I am already telling you that this tour is for the brave because it is very high, the path is long (it passes over the river, road and even train line) and the chairs are double, but open. And my tip is that you go with shoes that are well attached to your foot because I went with a sneaker and I was afraid of it falling during the journey. Upon reaching the top, we came across a Viewpoint that provided us with a beautiful view of the city!!!

And to close this amazing day with a flourish, nothing better than enjoying the night in a bar, right? But it couldn’t be a regular bar, it had to be special and it really was!!! We went to celebrate my sister’s birthday at Soberanno Gastrobar e Bistrô!!!

Soberanno Gastrobar e Bistrô has a very cozy and pleasant atmosphere and a sensational service, from the moment of our arrival until we leave, we were treated very kindly by Ernane and all the team!!! We even had a class on how to prepare an excellent coffee with Gabriel in a unique coffee drinking experience and a show at the end of the Crème Brûlée with Ernane, done with great care and as a courtesy to the Birthday Girl. Tell the truth, isn’t it really wonderful to be welcomed into the city like that?

Third Day Itinerary – Special Coffee Route / Archangel Rafael Coffee / Water Train / Soledade de Minas City / Beer Circuit

Today the day will also be very busy, let’s start early with the Special Coffee Route, which is a very interesting tour, especially for coffee lovers like me, whose mission is to show us the whole process that coffee goes through from the plantation to the cup. Join me in this experience?

Who picked us up at the hotel and took us on this journey was the guide Vanessa, an excellent professional, who understands a lot about coffee and is happy to pass on her knowledge. She told us from the origin of the coffee, with the goat herder named Kaldi who lived in the Kaffa region of Ethiopia and who observed that her animals were more agitated when they ate the leaves of the coffee, so he tasted the fruit and had the same feeling. Kaldi told a monk who put the coffee in an infusion and enjoyed the experience and started growing it, but it was banned because it was considered an aphrodisiac drink. Later on, coffee was popularized by the Arabs and from where the name “coffee” comes from the words “qahwa” or “kahve” which means “wine”, that’s why coffee was known as “Arabian wine”.

This whole story was being told on the route between São Lourenço and its neighbor, Carmo de Minas, where the coffee plantations are located. The cultivation of common coffee in this city began in 1900 on the initiative of Francisco Dias de Castro and that of special coffee in the early 2000s. And to guarantee all the excellence of special coffee, everything is done with great zeal and care, starting with the type of coffee to be grown, such as arabica (for example, which is known as mountain coffee because it requires an altitude above 900m), altitude is also very important, making the highest coffees the best, also the manual harvest and many other details and curiosities that Vanessa explained to us while we contemplated this incredible view!!! Special Coffee Route took us to visit the special coffee plantation located at Sítio da Torre, where we had the opportunity to enjoy this Beautiful View from the Lookout, and also to visit the Machinery and Drying Place of the Coffee, in addition to the difference in the beans of common and special coffee.

After this visit to the site, we went to Unique Cafés to learn about the coffee roasting process, which was conducted by Luiz Felipe who also gave us a class on coffee, emphasizing that it is at the time of roasting that you highlight what you want in coffee, including your level of sweetness.

And at the end of this demonstration, we move on to the moment you were waiting for: the Coffee Tasting, which was directed by Vanessa, starting with the tasting of the common coffee and the special one to understand the difference and then by Unique’s Special Cafes: Fruity, Yellow Bourbon and Moca, the first having a milder flavor, the second intermediate and the third stronger, all of which are prepared using the French Press method, which also contributes to accentuating the flavors. You can really tell the difference and the quality of the coffee. There was also a table with delicious dishes to accompany the coffee, which were wonderful!!!

Certainly, after all this information, our way of enjoying coffee and valuing the entire process so that it reaches our cup will change. In the afternoon, our tour was by Maria Fumaça (Old Train), but before that, at the Railway Station itself, we stopped at Archangel Rafael Coffee (https://www.facebook.com/arcanjorafaelcafe/ or Instagram @arcanjorafael) to try the famous “Broa Pau-a-Pique”, which is roasted in banana straw and made with various spices. It’s really good!!!! Not to mention that the service was incredible, Tainan and the entire team were super kind and attentive to us!!!

At the Archangel Rafael Coffee we also had the opportunity to meet Felipe Borges, who introduced us to Cachaça Sebastião Borges, produced by his family since 1958 and a novelty that is the Blackberry Wine, that’s right, the wine is made from blackberry and not from grape. He explained his entire production process to us during the tasting and my family approved it (just remembering that, for a change, I’m the driver of the season and I didn’t taste it). The chat and tasting were pleasant, but we had to say goodbye because the train was about to leave … It looks like a movie scene, right? And so it happened … At 2:30 pm we boarded the “Trem das Águas” (Water Train) destined to Soledade de Minas…

Riding the Water Train is really a return to the past, from the train itself which is pulled by a 1927 steam locomotive, passing by the musicians who animate us during the trip, by the people waving wherever the train passes, to the beautiful landscapes on the banks of the Rio Verde along this 10 km route until reaching the destination. We opted for the first class car, which has upholstered seats, and the price difference is very small compared to the second class, but regardless of your choice, the fun will accompany you!!!

This tour of the Water Train takes two hours, including the train journey and the stop in Soledade. The train departs from São Lourenço Station on Saturdays at 10 am and 2:30 pm and on Sundays at 10 am. It is good to book in advance to guarantee the place and you can do like me, and get tickets the day before so you don’t have to arrive an hour in advance at the station on the day of departure to secure the reservation. Upon arriving at our destination, we disembarked at the Soledade de Minas Station, which was built in 1884 and recovered in 2015, with a Handicrafts and tTreats Fair to welcome tourists, in addition to this beautiful Waterfall in front of the station, which cannot be left out. your photographic records. The city of Soledade de Minas played an important role at the time of the railway boom, because it had one of the main railway junctions in the south of Minas for the production flow. After this stop of about 30 minutes, we took the Water Train to return to São Lourenço.

Arriving in São Lourenço, we celebrated this gratifying day at the “Circuito das Cervejas” (Beer Circuit), which is one of the most famous bars in the city and is located in the center (Avenue Comendador Costa, 603). Sanctuary of Nossa Senhora da Conceição (also known as Church or Sanctuary of Nhá Chica) began to be built in 1867 on the initiative of Nhá Chica herself who wanted to build a Chapel in honor of Our Lady, leaving it almost ready when she died in 1895 The Sanctuary grew, its architecture follows the modern style and it receives millions of faithful every year!!!

In the Sanctuary of Nossa Senhora da Conceição and Nhá Chica we also find this beautiful image of Nhá Chica and an urn with her remains. Next to the Sanctuary, there is the Nhá Chica Institute that develops important social work in the city, also the Nhá Chica Memorial that tells us the story of Nhá Chica and the construction of the Sanctuary through its collection, including even her personal belongings, everything done with great care and simplicity following the examples of Nhá Chica.

Also attached to the Sanctuary is the Nhá Chica House, the place where she lived and also attended to people who sought her out in search of advice and prayers. It is not allowed to photograph inside the house, but through the facade, you can already feel the peace and positive energy of this place.

More precisely Francisca de Paula de Jesus (known as Nhá Chica) was born in 1810 in São João Del Rei/MG, but went to Baependi as a child, where she dedicated herself to prayer and charity, and was always sought by people asking for that Nhá Chica prayed for them, and through her intercession they achieved several miracles from God. Nhá Chica passed away on June 14, 1895 and was beatified on May 4, 2013. We also asked for the intercession of Nhá Chica and we achieved many graces from God!!!! An Expansion of the Sanctuary is under construction to accommodate a much larger number of the faithful. Just by the model you can have an idea of how it will look and visiting the part that is already ready we are sure of it!!! Not to mention this incredible view from there!!!!

We also took the opportunity to stop by the Sanctuary Shop and take some memories of that wonderful and blessed walk!!!

Leaving there, we went to visit the Church of Nossa Senhora do Montserrat, built in the 18th century in a predominantly baroque style, with many details in carved wood. As I was having mass, I couldn’t take a picture, but she is really beautiful. If you have the opportunity, go visit. Even its exterior draws attention with the apparent construction.

Opposite these Church is the Central Square of Baependi, which is also very charming.

Revoada de Cores na Reabertura do Farol

É com muita alegria que te convido a conhecer comigo e visitar presencialmente a Exposição “Revoada”, que estreou no Farol Santander para celebrar sua Reabertura depois de tanto tempo fechado por conta da pandemia.

Durante o período em que permaneceu fechado para visitas, o Farol Santander passou por uma restauração na fachada, além de toda uma adequação para atender aos protocolos de segurança, com tapete sanitizante na entrada, aferição de temperatura, uso obrigatório de máscara, dispensers de álcool gel espalhados pelo prédio e indicações para distanciamento social.

Lembrando que o horário de funcionamento do Farol Santander foi reduzido (agora é das 13h às 19h de terça a domingo) e também a ocupação para 60% da capacidade. Quem nos passou todas essas informações sobre a adequação e melhorias no prédio foi a Patricia Audi, vice-presidente executiva de Comunicação, Marketing, Relações Institucionais e Sustentabilidade do Santander Brasil.

Logo que entramos no prédio, no Hall de Entrada do Farol Santander¸ nos deparamos com esse Lustre maravilhoso de 13 metros de altura e 1,5 tonelada de peso, composto por mais de 10 mil peças que foram limpas e restauradas durante a pandemia e ao seu redor cerca de 70 balões de vidro, presos ao teto por cabos de aço e medindo de 40cm a 90cm, que compõe a Instalação que também dá nome à Exposição “Revoada”. Cada balão tem um formato (simbolizando a unicidade de cada indivíduo) e uma cor que remete à infância. Além de uma transparência intencional para transmitir suavidade.

A Exposição “Revoada” conta com instalações inéditas da artista plástica paulistana Flávia Junqueira, que buscou através da sua arte trazer uma leveza nesse retorno ao “novo normal”. Desde a escolha do nome “Revoada” que significa voo de retorno e também dos balões coloridos que simbolizam a leveza, sendo assim, um retorno para algo leve!!! Vale lembrar que a curadoria da exposição ficou por conta de Paulo Herkenhoff e a produção foi de Angela Magdalena (Madai) e Julia Brandão (Ayo).

A outra parte da Exposição “Revoada”, encontra-se no 24º andar com a Instalação “Território Espelhado”, que nos faz voltar ao infância, nos transportando para um parque de diversão com direito à trilha sonora, cavalos de carrossel, muitos balões e papéis metalizados, tudo isso refletido em espelhos nas paredes e no teto.

Voltando à Infância na Exposição Revoada

A Cereja do Bolo em Quebec

Para finalizar nossa jornada pelo Canadá, vamos visitar essa cidade encantadora e super charmosa, que nos faz voltar no tempo com suas muralhas e castelos!!! Me acompanha nesse tour pelos principais pontos turísticos e depois me conta se realmente não é “A Cereja do Bolo em Quebec” !!!

A Cidade de Quebec (que é a capital da Província de Quebec) fica a aproximadamente 800 km de Toronto, dá pra ir de carro, ônibus e trem, mas nós optamos pelo avião para ganharmos tempo (o voo até o Aeroporto Internacional Jean-Lesage de Quebec (YQB) dura cerca de 2 horas). A distância do Aeroporto até o centro da cidade fica em torno de 17km e pegamos um Uber para o Hotel Château Laurier que é muito bonito e tem uma excelente localização (fica em 1220 Place George V Ouest), bem próximo a “Grande Allée” (point do agito noturno), aos “Plains of Abraham”, e é possível ir a pé até a Velha Quebec. Agora sim, vamos começar nosso tour por um dos principais cartões postais de Quebec, o Château Frontenac, que é um hotel castelo belíssimo projetado pelo arquiteto Bruce Price, inspirado nos castelos medievais do Vale do Loire na França e inaugurado em 1893. A construção foi feita pela companhia ferroviária Canadian Pacific Railway para incentivar o turismo da alta sociedade que utilizaria seus trens para chegar até o hotel. Este foi sendo reformado ao longo dos anos e contando com mais de 600 quartos atualmente.

Mesmo que você não fique hospedado no hotel, é possível fazer uma visita guiada ao Château Frontenac para conhecer as histórias e todo o interior do castelo. Os ingressos estão à venda no próprio hotel e custam CAD$ 21 (para adultos), mas tem desconto para crianças e combo familiar. O tour é com hora marcada, dura cerca de uma hora e é todo temático, até o nosso Guia veio caracterizado de Jean Talon, o primeiro intendente da Nova França.

Logo no Hall de Entrada do Château Frontenac nos deparamos com um quadro com o retrato de Louis de Buade, o Conde de Frontenac, patrono e primeiro morador do Hotel, que também foi governador da Nova França.

Continuando nosso tour pelo Château Frontenac, visitamos o Bar, que tem esse lindo detalhe no teto e uma adega bem servida.

Depois seguimos para o Salon Rose (Salão Rosa), onde antigamente as mulheres costumavam se reunir, enquanto os homens discutiam negócios em outras salas. Atualmente é locado para festas, assim como o Salle de Bal (BallRoom) ou Salão de Bailes, que também é belíssimo.

Falando em festas, muitos casais vão fotografar lá no dia do casamento, principalmente nesse balcão (já imaginou que chic uma festa de casamento no Château Frontenac?)

A arquitetura e o charme do Château Frontenac já conquistaram várias celebridades, que se hospedaram lá como a Rainha Elizabeth II, o cineasta Alfred Hitchcock, entre outros, com direito a uma reunião “secreta” entre o Presidente dos Estados Unidos Franklin Roosevelt, o Primeiro Ministro Britânico Winston Churchill e o Primeiro-Ministro Canadense William Lyon Mackenzie King.

No tour guiado ao Château Frontenac também visitamos uma Exposição com Utensílios de Época e conhecemos a história da xará da minha irmã Ane, a Anne de La Grange-Trianon, a Condessa de Frontenac, que fazia parte da aristocracia francesa e se casou com Louis de Buade (Conde de Frontenac), mesmo contra a vontade de seu pai que não aceitava o relacionamento por questões financeiras, ela continuou na França e ele veio para Quebec, passaram por um grande trauma com a morte do filho do casal. Ela não chegou a visitar Quebec, mas ajudou a cidade em questões diplomáticas na França. Quando Conde Frontenac morreu, mandou levar seu coração (o órgão mesmo) pra ela, que se recusou a receber o presente por não ter o que fazer com ele. Personalidade forte da Condessa, não é mesmo?

A beleza do Château Frontenac ao entardecer…

A parte mais antiga da cidade, conhecida como Old Quebec / Vieux- Quebec ou Velha Quebec é protegida por Muralhas ou Fortificações de Quebec, que foram construídas há muito tempo e permanecem até hoje, fazendo com que a cidade seja a única com essa característica na América do Norte. E entre os 4,6 km de das muralhas, ficam alguns Portais, entre eles o Port Saint–Louis, que foi construído em 1693 e passou por várias reformas até chegar à forma atual que é de 1878. Ele fica na Rue Saint-Louis e é possível caminhar por ele para ter uma vista diferenciada da cidade.

Vale lembrar que Quebec possui uma arquitetura belíssima em estilo francês (assim como seu idioma que é predominantemente francês por conta da sua colonização, mas o inglês também é considerado idioma oficial). A cidade foi fundada em 1608 (uma das mais antigas da América do Norte) e declarada pela UNESCO como Patrimônio da Humanidade em 1985. Você poderá apreciar essa riqueza arquitetônica em várias ruas da cidade, como na “Rue Saint Louis”.

E foi apreciando a paisagem e caminhando pela Rue Saint Louis, que paramos para o “Petit Déjeuner” (que é como eles chamam o Café da Manhã) no Nili Alimentation (76, Rue St. Louis), um lugar muito charmoso e aconchegante que com suas paredes em pedra nos transporta para o período medieval e onde foi possível provar novamente o Café Van Houtte que conhecemos em Montreal e nos conquistou!!!

Descendo a Rue Saint-Louis, chegando próximo do Château Frontenac (do lado oposto), bem perto do Letreiro de Quebec (que é uma paradinha “obrigatória” pra foto) fica o Musée du Fort (ou Museu do Forte), que por meio de efeitos sonoros e visuais conta a história militar de Quebec. Essa parte ao redor do Château Frontenac é chamada de Terrasse Dufferin, que é um calçadão de madeira construído em 1879 e que nos proporciona uma vista linda do Saint Lawrence River (ou Rio São Lourenço). O nome é em homenagem à Lord Dufferin, que dirigiu a construção do Terrasse e era governador-geral do Canadá nessa época. Abaixo do Terrasse Dufferin ficam os resquícios do Fort Saint Louis e do Château Saint-Louis, que já serviu como residência de governantes. Aproveite essa linda paisagem para tirar as tradicionais fotos com a Maple Leaf (Folha de Maple), símbolo do Canadá.

Vista do Rio São Lourenço do Terrasse Dufferin

É no Terrasse Dufferin que fica o Monumento a Samuel de Champlain, o fundador da cidade de Quebec, que era geógrafo e explorador Francês, entre outras habilidades. A obra é de autoria de Paul Chevré e foi inaugurada em 1898 para homenagear esse importante nome da história canadense. O monumento feito de mármore e bronze tem 16m de altura, sendo que só a Estátua de Samuel de Champlain mede 4,25m.

Toda essa parte que visitamos até agora é conhecida como Haute-Ville (ou Cidade Alta) que juntamente com a Basse-Ville(ou Cidade Baixa) compõem a Velha Quebec. Para chegar até a Cidade Baixa existem outras formas de acesso, mas optamos pelo Funicular por ser mais rápido e também para poder apreciar a vista. O primeiro funicular começou a funcionar em 1879, depois foi passando por reformas até chegar no modelo atual. A tarifa custa CAD $3,75 por viagem as entradas ficam no Terrasse Dufferin e no 16, Rue Petit Champlain. Agora que já descemos pelo funicular, vamos começar a explorar a Basse Ville (ou Cidade Baixa), que nos encanta com os detalhes e charme de suas ruas e sua belíssima arquitetura. E foi aqui que encontramos a Instalação “Eternal Snow” dos artistas franceses (e moradores de Toronto) Lucie Bulot e Dylan Collins, que envolve o busto do Rei Luís XIV (já existente na Praça) em um globo transparente onde ocorre uma tempestade de neve eterna, representando o encontro entre o Rei Sol e o Inverno Rigoroso de Quebec. Essa obra faz parte da 6ª Edição do “Passages Insolites” (ou Passagens Inusitadas), que reúne 14 obras de 40 artistas espalhadas em diversas vias públicas da cidade para inspirar as pessoas a olharem o mundo ao redor (e o trajeto do cotidiano) de uma maneira diferente. A mostra foi produzida pela “ExMuro” (https://exmuro.com/en/), com curadoria de Vincent Roy. Realmente uma ideia muito interessante e os artistas estão de parabéns pela obra!!!

Na mesma praça onde estava essa obra de arte, a Place Royale (ou Praça Real), uma das principais e mais famosas praças da cidade, fica a Igreja de Notre-Dame des Victoires (ou Nossa Senhora das Vitórias), uma linda igreja de fachada em pedra, que foi construída entre 1687 e 1723, sofreu um bombardeio em 1759, mas foi totalmente restaurada em 1816.

O nome da Igreja (Notre-Dame des Victoires) é uma homenagem às vitórias dos franceses sobre os ingleses em 1690 e 1711. Tanto que pendurado no teto da Igreja tem uma maquete do navio “Brézé”, que em 1664 trouxe uma tropa francesa para ajudar a expulsar os invasores britânicos. Outra curiosidade é que tanto a Igreja quanto a Praça foram locações do filme “Prenda-me se for Capaz” (de 2002) com Leonardo di Caprio e Tom Hanks.

Continuando nossa caminhada pela Cidade Baixa, na Rue Notre-Dame nos deparamos com um belíssimo Mural “La Fresque des Québécois” (O Afresco dos Quebequenses), que nos seus 420 m² conta a história de Quebec, por meio de seus personagens ilustres, arquitetura, fortificações, escadarias, entre outros elementos, inclusive tem o desafio de encontrar Dois Gatos na pintura. Não vou dizer aqui onde estão para não estragar a surpresa, mas depois me conte nos comentários se os encontrou. O mural foi inaugurado em 17 de outubro de 1999, com desenho e produção de “Cité Création (https://citecreation.fr/), contando com a participação de Hélène Fleury, Marie-Chantal Lachance e Pierre Laforest. Falando em murais, existem vários espalhados por Quebec. Nós visitamos mais dois o “Fresque du Petit-Champlain” (que fica em 102, Rue du Petit-Champlain, foi desenhado por Murale Création, retratando etapas marcantes da história do bairro operário portuário de Cap-Blanc e de seus trabalhadores, bem como os bombardeios e deslizamentos de terra sofridos na área, sendo inaugurado em 14 de outubro de 2001 e restaurado em 2016) e o “Fresque BMO de La Capitale Nationale du Québec” (ou Afresco BMO da Capital Nacional de Quebec) (que fica na Cidade Alta, em 1037, Rue de La Chevrotière, numa parede do Edifício Marie-Guyart, foi inaugurado em 30 de outubro de 2008 e retrata a fachada do Edifício do Parlamento com vários personagens importantes em homenagem os 400 anos da história política da cidade). Outro lugar que você vai gostar de conhecer na Cidade Baixa é o Musée de la Civilisation (ou Museu da Civilização), que através de suas exposições permanentes e temporárias retrata de uma maneira muito interativa a história de várias civilizações.

O Museu da Civilização foi fundado em 1984 e tem um acervo bem completo, desde Múmias Egípcias de Gatos, passando por Estátuas de Leão (Terracota Lion), objetos e vestimentas Indígenas, Telefones Antigos, mudanças climáticas até uma exposição dedicada às Histórias sobre Venenos, entre diversos outros assuntos. Aproveitando que estávamos perto, ao sair do Museu de Civilização, atravessamos a rua e fomos conhecer o Vieux Port (ou Velho Porto), que durante o século XVII recebia as embarcações com suprimentos e tripulações europeias e agora é também ponto de parada para navios de cruzeiro! O Velho Porto se estende pelo Rio Saint-Laurent (ou Rio São Lourenço) e possui marina, terminal de navios, grandes silos de grãos da Bunge….

Além de contar que, no seu entorno, o Velho Porto possui lindas ruas, edifícios históricos (como o da Aduana), galerias de arte e restaurantes. Mesmo estando chovendo conseguimos aproveitar o passeio e ainda garantir uma fotinho com esse lindo guarda-chuva que compramos lá (J’aime Quebec)!

Como já mencionei anteriormente, a região do Velho Porto conta com vários restaurantes, mas tem um deles que é muito especial e foi indicação do nosso amigo Tim, o Café du Monde (ou Café do Mundo), um bistrô em estilo parisiense que faz sucesso há mais de 30 anos na cidade e nos proporciona uma vista privilegiada do Rio Saint–Laurent e do Porto.

O Café du Monde, além de um ambiente muito agradável, nos oferece um excelente atendimento e uma culinária maravilhosa (com opção vegetariana como a que escolhi), incluindo as sobremesas como essa Torta de Frutas Vermelhas e o Crème Brûllée que estavam deliciosos. Pratos Principais: Hamburguer Vegetariano pra mim e Peixe com Batata para a Ane

Ainda passeando pela Cidade Baixa, fomos caminhar pelo Quartier Petit Champlain, que é considerado um dos bairros comerciais mais antigos da América do Norte, repleto de lojinhas com uma arquitetura antiga charmosa, ruas com paralelepípedos e bem estreitas, onde só os pedestres podem andar apreciando a paisagem e entre essas ruazinhas está a Rue du Petit-Champlain que é uma das principais do bairro, foi construída em 1635 e no final dela tem uma linda Moldura de Quadro para que os visitantes possam tirar fotos de recordação desse passeio encantador. Vale lembrar que a região passou por uma fase de abandono no final do século XIX, só voltando a ser restaurada na década de 70 e que vem sendo mantida em ordem graças aos esforços dos comerciantes e artesãos locais. Passeando pelo Quartier Petit Champlain, na *Rue du Petit-Champlain*

Outra rua que é super charmosa e muito procurada pelos turistas nessa região é a Rue Cul-de-Sac, que possui lindos guarda-chuvas pendurados e garantem lindas fotos, além de vários restaurantes e lojinhas também. A expressão “cul-de-sac” significa beco sem saída e a rua recebeu esse nome por ter ligação direta com o Porto e servir como passagem de mercadorias entre este e a cidade. Mas em 1854 essa parte do porto foi aterrada e a rua deixou de ser sem saída, porém o nome foi mantido em razão de sua importância histórica.

Na *Rue-Cul-de-Sac* com seus lindos guarda-chuvas

Mais um lugar que também é muito visitado pelos turistas e fica ali perto (16, Rue De Buade) é a Catedral-Basílica de Notre Dame de Quebec, que foi construída em 1647, sofreu dois incêndios (1759 e 1922) mas foi reconstruída e declarada pela Unesco como Sítio Histórico Nacional do Canadá em 1989. Quando visitamos a parte externa estava em reforma, por isso não tirei foto, mas seu interior é belíssimo, desde os detalhes nas colunas, passando pela pintura no teto, as imagens dos santos, os vitrais, até chegar no Altar, que tem uma espécie de Cúpula de Arcos Dourados com Anjos e Jesus Ressuscitado. Uma verdadeira obra de arte!!! Além de transmitir muita paz!

A imponência de Catedral-Basílica de Notre Dame de Quebec

A Catedral-Basílica de Notre Dame de Quebec foi construída onde anteriormente era uma Capela dedicada à Notre Dame de la Recouvrance, fundada em 1633 por Samuel de Champlain (o mesmo do Monumento que comentei acima, lembra?). Com a transformação em catedral, passou a chamar-se Notre-Dame de La Paix (ou Nossa Senhora da Paz), mas ainda tem essa imagem de Notre–Dame de Recouvrance. Que Ela abençoe a todos nós!!! Já foram tantos passeios maravilhosos durante o dia que você deve estar se perguntando o que a noite de Quebec nos reserva? Já posso te adiantar que tem muito agito! Na parte murada tem várias opções de bares e restaurantes, mas o exterior da muralha também garante muita diversão, como a Rue Grande Allée que concentra vários pontos turísticos da cidade (que vou te mostrar mais adiante) e diversos barzinhos, restaurantes, danceterias e pubs, como o Taverne, que fica em 585 Grande Allée Est e é um animadíssimo Resto-Bar onde é possível provar o Poutine de Quebec (que dizem ser o melhor do Canadá e estava delicioso) ao som de muita música boa!!! Em frente ao Taverne, no 600 Grande Allée Est fica a Balada Dagobert, que é um dos points mais agitados da cidade pra quem gosta de dançar!!! Depois de curtir a noite de Quebec, vamos voltar aos passeios diurnos porque ainda temos muito o que explorar na cidade, começando pela Citadelle ou La Citadelle que é uma fortaleza em formato de estrela que foi construída entre 1820 e 1850 para proteger de a cidade de uma invasão americana e também para servir de refúgio para os britânicos. A Citadelle fica na VelhaQuebec, ao lado do Port Saint-Louis.

A Citadelle é considerada a fortaleza britânica mais importante da América do Norte e faz parte das fortificações de Quebec. Ela foi declarada como Sítio Histórico Nacional do Canadá em 1980 e Patrimônio Mundial da Unesco em 1985. Nós fizemos a visita guiada e foi muito interessante para conhecer um pouco sobre os 300 anos de história militar canadense. Os ingressos adultos para esse tour custam CAD$ 18, mas tem desconto para combo família, idosos e crianças. A visita dura cerca de uma hora e quem nos conduziu foi o Guia Mathieu, que nos explicou, entre outras coisas, o significado do letreiro “Je me Souviens” (ou “Eu me lembro”) como sendo uma homenagem aos membros do Regimento que foram feridos ou morto em batalhas!!

Enquanto esperávamos pra começar o tour guiado, aproveitamos pra conhecer o Musée Royal 22^ERégiment (ou Museu do 22° Regimento Real) que possui artefatos militares, como armas, uniformes, medalhas entre outros objetos, não é permitido fotografar no museu, mas vale a pena passar por ele. Durante a Visita Guiada pela Citadelle, tivemos a oportunidade de conhecer vários Edifícios, entre eles o do Antigo Hospital, descobrimos que a Citadelle funciona atualmente como instalação militar e Residência Oficial secundária da monarquia canadense e do Governador Geral do Canadá, chegamos a passar por essa residências.

No tour guiado pela Citadelle também passamos por uma antiga Prisão Militar, e por um outro Museu, onde tem a foto da Cabra Batisse, que foi presente da Rainha Elizabeth II e é o mascote do Regimento.

Também fomos até uma das extremidades da estrela que compõem a Citadelle, chamada de Bastião do Rei, e tivemos uma visão maravilhosa do Château Frontenac e do Rio Saint Laurent. A visita à Citadelle é realmente um passeio que vale a pena incluir no seu roteiro. Além de todo o conhecimento adquirido, é possível ver de perto canhões e tanques de guerra! Ao lado da Citadelle fica um dos acessos aos Plaines d’Abraham (ou Planícies de Abraão) também chamado de Battlesfield Park(ou Parque do Campo de Batalha) porque foi o local do confronto entre os franceses e ingleses, culminando com a vitória britânica em 1759, fazendo com que o Canadá se tornasse colônia inglesa. Mais detalhes desse conflito e outras histórias estão no Plains of Abraham Museum (que fica em 835 AvenueWilfrid-Laurier, mas também tem acesso por dentro do parque).

Além da importância histórica, os Plaines d’Abraham são um enorme parque urbano com cerca de 103 hectares de planícies, bosques e vales. É um verdadeiro refúgio verde na cidade, muito utilizado para o lazer, prática de exercícios, também para relaxar e apreciar a natureza. É conhecido como o Central Park de Quebec. Outro museu que está localizado dentro dos Plaines d’Abraham é o Musée National des Beaux-Arts du Québec (ou Museu Nacional de Belas Artes de Quebec), que também tem acesso pelo 179, Grande Allée Ouest (aquela rua do agito noturno que comentei que tem vários pontos turísticos, lembra?). Além das obras dentro do Museu, ainda tem Exposição no seu lindo Jardim.

O Museu Nacional de Belas Artes de Quebec é um dos principais museus da cidade, com um acervo de mais de 40 mil obras, que mantém viva a memória artística de Quebec, com trabalhos desde o século XIV até a atualidade, sempre valorizando os artistas locais. O Museu foi inaugurado em 1933, com o nome de Musée de La Province de Québec, depois teve seu nome alterado em 1963 para Musée du Québec, recendo a nomenclatura atual em 2002 e é um complexo formado por quatro edifícios: o Central Pavilion (ou Pavilhão Central), que é a central de visitantes; o Charles Baillairgé Pavilion, que era uma antiga prisão antes de virar museu e agora abriga o acervo de arte moderna; o Gérard Morisset Pavilion, que foi o primeiro prédio do museu e abriga exposições de arte histórica e o Pierre Lassonde Pavilion, que é o edifício mais recente, sendo inaugurado em 2016 e que abriga arte contemporânea. Museu de Belas Artes de Quebec e seus Pavilhões: *Pierre Lassonde Pavilion*

Mais um ponto turístico da cidade que chama a atenção é o Hôtel du Parlement (ou Edifício do Parlamento) que abriga a Assemblée Nationale du Québec (ou Assembleia Nacional de Quebec) e foi construído entre 1877 a 1886, com projeto do arquiteto Eugène-Étienne Taché, no estilo arquitetônico chamado de Segundo Império ou Napoleão III (que mistura vários estilos, desde o renascentista, passando pelo barraco, até a inclusão de elementos modernos). Além do edifício, seu jardim também é um encanto.

O Edifício do Parlamento é composto de oito andares, chegando à altura de 52m na sua torre frontal, além de ter recebido o acréscimo de mais quatro prédios ao seu redor, formando um enorme complexo. Vale lembrar que foi declarado como Sítio Histórico Nacional em 1985 e possui cerca de 22 Estátuas de Personagens Históricas espalhadas tanto pela fachada do edíficio, quanto pelo jardim, como as esculturas que estão bem na entrada do prédio: “A parada na Floresta” e “O Pescador Nigogo”, ambas obras do artista Louis-Philippe Hébert.

Nós fizemos a Visita Guiada ao Edifício do Parlamento e foi muito interessante para conhecer mais detalhes de sua história, além de todos os detalhes de sua arquitetura interna. Continuando nossa Visita Guiada pela Assembleia Nacional de Quebec, passamos pelo Hall de Entrada, que tem essa linda Maquete Transparente que nos permite ter uma ideia do tamanho do complexo do Parlamento. Os detalhes nas paredes também chamou nossa atenção e nesse andar estão as salas de conferência e de imprensa, além da Escadaria que dá acesso às Salas Azul e Vermelha que visitamos na sequência.

A Sala Vermelha é a sala da Câmara do Conselho Legislativo ou da Assembleia Legislativa, e de 1886 a 1968 sediava os trabalhos da Assembleia Legislativa (que agora está na Sala Azul) e atualmente serve para reuniões de comissões parlamentares e cerimônias de juramento, entre outros eventos parlamentares. Sua decoração é belíssima, realmente enche os olhos!!!

A Sala Azul é a Sala da Assembleia Nacional, o local de reunião dos deputados para votarem e discutirem seus projetos legislativos. Inicialmente era de cor branca, depois passou a ser verde e desde 1978 é azul para facilitar a transmissão televisiva. Também tem uma decoração muito bonita.

Também visitamos a Biblioteca, que tem uma excelente estrutura e é aberta ao público de segunda à sexta das 8h30 às 16h30. Suas colunas e vitrais são lindos.

Terminando a visita guiada, vale a pena dar uma paradinha para contemplar os Jardins da Assembleia Nacional, ondeé possível encontrar várias espécies de árvores e plantas que representam a diversidade da flora de Quebec, com plantas anuais e perenes. Além disso, a Assembleia tem vários convênios para desenvolvimento de horticultura e também apicultura no local. Para embelezar ainda mais a parte externa do Edifício do Parlamento, encontra-se a Fonte Tourny, que foi inaugurada em 2007 em comemoração ao 400° aniversário da cidade. Ela foi um presente da empresa La Maison Simons. A Fonte tem cerca de 7 metros de altura e 43 jatos d’água. Ela foi construída em 1854 e em 1855 foi premiada na Exposição Universal de Paris. Sua primeira instalação foi em Allées de Tourny (uma avenida de Bourdeaux na França), daí a origem do nome, porém, devido ao alto custo de manutenção, foi removida e vendida, passando por vários donos até ser encontrada em um antiquário por Peter Simons (presidente da La Maison Simons), que mandou restaurá-la para presentear a cidade de Quebec. A Fonte Tourny tem vários personagens e símbolos que remetem ao mundo marinho. Se tiver a oportunidade vá visitá-la também durante a noite, porque a iluminação noturna a deixa ainda mais bela.

Outro lugar bem interessante em Quebec é a Place D’Youville , uma Praça muito bonitana Rue Saint-Jean, que é famosa por virar uma pista de esqui no inverno, garantindo muita diversão para os moradores e turistas. Além da Place D’Youville, a Rue Saint-Jean tem muitos outros atrativos, ela é uma das ruas mais antigas e animadas da cidade, tem uma parte que fica dentro das Muralhas, fazendo parte da Velha Quebec e outra parte que fica fora. A Rue Saint-Jean tem muitos edifícios antigos e históricos, tem comércio variado, bares, restaurantes e até o Portal Saint-Jean, que foi construído em 1693, passou por várias reformas, sendo o atual de 1940. Vale lembrar que a parte da Rue Saint-Jean localizada na Velha Quebec torna-se rua só para pedestres no verão a partir das 18h durante a semana e o dia todo nos finais de semana.

Ainda na Rue Saint-Jean no número 634, visitamos o Erico – Chocolaterie Créative – Musée du Chocolat (ou Erico – Fábrica de Chocolate Criativa – Museu do Chocolate), que é um espaço pequeno, porém muito aconchegante, que conta a história do chocolate desde o seu surgimento com os maias, passando por toda sua evolução e como foi conquistando os paladares até chegar a atualidade. Continuando nossa caminhada pela Rue Saint-Jean, na altura do número 400 nos deparamos com a Église Saint-Jean-Baptiste de Québec (ou Igreja de São João Batista de Quebec)¸ que foi construída entre 1881 e 1884, com projeto do arquiteto Joseph Ferdinand Peachy no estilo do Segundo Império, após um incêndio ter destruído a igreja anterior.

A Igreja de São João Batista foi declarada como Monumento Histórico de Quebec em 1990, e é realmente muito bonita, a decoração do Altar chama bastante a atenção e a Igreja homenageia São João Batista, que é o padroeiro dos canadenses franceses. Além da Rue Saint-Jean, outra que é bem famosa na cidade é a Avenue Cartier que é frequentada tanto por turistas quanto por moradores locais, que vão até ela tanto em busca das boutiques de luxo, quanto de diversão e entretenimento, já que essa avenida concentra cinema, bares, restaurantes e tem uma vida noturna bem agitada!!! Se tiver um tempinho, vale a pena dar uma passadinha por lá!!!

Esse passeio de agora é pra você que, assim como eu, ama altura e gosta de ter uma vista privilegiada lá de cima. Vamos visitar o Observatoire de la Capitale (ou Observatório da Capital), que nos proporciona uma vista maravilhosa de 360º da cidade de Quebec e fica no 31º andar do Edifício Marie-Guyart(1037, Rue de la Chevrotière).

A visão do Observatorie de la Capitaleé realmente encantadora e tem painéis interativos explicativos, que além de nos mostrar os locais de destaque daquele ponto de observação, também nos conta sobre sua história. Bistro Bar Tournant, que fica no Hotel Le Concorde (1225, Place MontCalm, na esquina com a Grande Allée Est). Desde que chegamos na cidade e já avistamos o prédio desse hotel, minha irmã e eu ficamos encantadas com sua beleza e curiosas para saber o que era, então nos informamos e descobrimos que nessa parte redonda ficava um restaurante giratório, então já entramos em contato para saber como funcionava e nos programamos para passar por lá antes de irmos para o aeroporto para retornar para Toronto.

O Restaurante Ciel! Bistro Bar fica no 28º andar do Hotel Le Concorde e foi inaugurado para as comemorações do Natal de 2014. O ambiente é muito agradável e o giro completo dura cerca de uma hora e meia, tempo suficiente para tomar um drink, apreciando essa vista incrível. Vale muito a visita!!!

The Icing on the Cake in Quebec

To end our journey through Canada, we will visit this charming city, which takes us back in time with its walls and castles !!! Follow me on this tour of the main tourist sights and then tell me if it really isn’t “The Icing on the Cake in Quebec”!!!

Quebec City (which is the capital of the Province of Quebec) is approximately 500 miles from Toronto, you can go by car, bus and train, but we opted for the plane to save time (the flight to Jean-Lesage International Airport Quebec (YQB) takes about 2 hours). The distance from the Airport to the city center is around 11 miles and we took an Uber to the Hotel Château Laurier which is very beautiful and has an excellent location (located at 1220 Place George V Ouest), very close to “Grande Allée” (point of the nightlife), to the “Plains of Abraham”, and it is possible to walk to Old Quebec. Now, let’s start our tour with one of Quebec’s main postcards, the Château Frontenac, which is a beautiful castle hotel designed by architect Bruce Price, inspired by the medieval castles of the Loire Valley in France and opened in 1893. The construction was made by the Canadian Pacific Railway to encourage high society tourism that would use their trains to reach the hotel. This has been renovated over the years and now has more than 600 rooms.

Even if you are not staying at the hotel, it is possible to take a guided tour of Château Frontenac to learn about the stories and the entire interior of the castle. Tickets are for sale at the hotel and cost CAD$ 21 (for adults), but have discounts for children and family combo. The tour is by appointment, lasts about an hour and is all thematic, even our Guide was characterized by Jean Talon, the first governor of New France.

Right in the Entrance Hall of the Château Frontenac we came across a painting with the portrait of Louis de Buade, Count of Frontenac, patron and first resident of the Hotel, who was also governor of New France.

Continuing our Château Frontenac Tour, we visited the Bar, that has this beautiful detail on the ceiling and a well-served wine cellar.

Then we went to the Salon Rose, where women used to get together, while men discussed business in other rooms. Currently it is rented for parties, as well as the BallRoom, which is also beautiful.

Speaking of parties, many couples will photograph there on their wedding day, especially on this balcony (have you ever imagined that a chic wedding party at Château Frontenac?)

The architecture and charm of the Château Frontenac have already won over several celebrities, who stayed there as Queen Elizabeth II, filmmaker Alfred Hitchcock, among others, including a “secret” meeting between the President of the United States Franklin Roosevelt, the First British Minister Winston Churchill and Canadian Prime Minister William Lyon Mackenzie King.

On the guided tour of Château Frontenac we also visited an Exhibition with Utensils from Ancient Times and got to know the story of my sister Ane’s namesake, Anne de La Grange-Trianon, Countess of Frontenac, who was part of the French aristocracy and married Louis de Buade (Count of Frontenac), even against the will of her father who did not accept the relationship for financial reasons, she continued in France and he came to Quebec, went through a great trauma with the death of the couple’s son. She never visited Quebec, but helped the city with diplomatic issues in France. When Count Frontenac died, he ordered his heart (the human organ) to be taken to her, who refused to receive the gift because she had nothing to do with it. The Countess’s strong personality, isn’t she?

The oldest part of the city, known as Old Quebec / Vieux– Quebec is protected by Quebec City Walls or Fortifications, which were built a long time ago and remain today, making the city the only one with this characteristic in the city. North America. And among the 2,85 miles of the walls, there are some Portals, among them Port Saint-Louis, which was built in 1693 and underwent several renovations until reaching the current form that is from 1878. It is located on Rue Saint–Louis and it is possible to walk through it to have a different view of the city.

It is worth remembering that Quebec has a beautiful architecture in French style (as well as its language which is predominantly French due to its colonization, but English is also considered an official language). The city was founded in 1608 (one of the oldest in North America) and declared by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 1985. You will be able to appreciate this architectural richness in several streets of the city, such as on “Rue Saint Louis”.

And it was enjoying the scenery and walking along Rue Saint Louis, that we stopped for the “Petit Déjeuner” (which is what they call Breakfast) at Nili Alimentation (76, Rue St. Louis), a very charming and cozy place that with its stone walls transports us to the medieval period and where it was possible to taste again the Café Van Houtte that we know in Montreal and won us over!!

Going down Rue Saint-Louis, arriving near the Château Frontenac (on the opposite side), very close to the Quebec Sign (which is a must-see stop for the photo) is the Musée du Fort (or Museum of the Fort), which through of sound and visual effects tells the military history of Quebec. This part around the Château Frontenac is called Terrasse Dufferin, which is a wooden boardwalk built in 1879 and which gives us a beautiful view of the Saint Lawrence River. The name is in honor of Lord Dufferin, who directed the construction of the Terrasse and was governor-general of Canada at that time. Below Terrasse Dufferin are the remnants of Fort Saint Louis and Château Saint-Louis, which once served as the residence of rulers. Take advantage of this beautiful landscape to take the traditional photos with the Maple Leaf, a symbol of Canada.

Terrasse Dufferin is home to the Monument to Samuel de Champlain, the founder of Quebec City, who was a French geographer and explorer, among other skills. The work is by Paul Chevré and was inaugurated in 1898 to honor this important name in Canadian history. The monument made of marble and bronze is 52,49 ft. high, with only the Statue of Samuel de Champlain measuring 13,94ft.

All this part we have visited so far is known as Haute–Ville (or High City) that together with Basse-Ville (or Lower Town) composing Old Quebec. To get to Basse-Ville there are other ways of access, but we chose the Funicular because it is faster and also to be able to enjoy the view. The first funicular started to operate in 1879, and then it underwent renovations until it reached the current model. The fare costs CAD $ 3.75 per trip. Now that we have gone down the funicular, let’s start exploring Basse Ville, which enchants us with the details and charm of its streets and its beautiful architecture. And it was here that we found the “Eternal Snow” Installation by French artists (and Toronto residents) Lucie Bulot and Dylan Collins, which wraps the bust of King Louis XIV (already in the Square) in a transparent globe where a snowstorm occurs eternal, representing the encounter between King Sol and the Rigorous Winter of Quebec. This work is part of the 6th Edition of “PassagesInsolites” (or Unusual Passages), which brings together 14 works by 40 artists spread across different public roads in the city to inspire people to look around the world (and the daily route) of a different way. The exhibition was produced by “ExMuro” (https://exmuro.com/en/), curated by Vincent Roy. Really a very interesting idea and the artists are to be congratulated for the work!!!

In the same square where this work of art was, Place Royale (or Royal Square), one of the main and most famous squares in the city, is the Church of Notre–Dame des Victoires (or Our Lady of Victories), a beautiful church of stone facade, which was built between 1687 and 1723, was bombed in 1759, but was fully restored in 1816.

The name of the Church (Notre-Dame des Victoires) is a tribute to the French victories over the English in 1690 and 1711. So much so that it hung from the roof of the The Church has a model of the ship “Brézé”, which in 1664 brought a French troop to help expel British invaders. Another curiosity is that both the Church and the Square were locations of the film “Catch Me If You Can” (from 2002) with Leonardo di Caprio and Tom Hanks.

Continuing our walk through the Basse Ville, on Rue Notre-Dame, we come across a beautiful Mural “La Fresque des Québécois” (The Fresco of Quebecers), which in its 420 m² tells the History of Quebec, through its illustrious characters, architecture , fortifications, staircases, among other elements, even have the challenge of finding Two Cats in painting. I’m not going to tell you where they are in order not to spoil the surprise, but then tell me in the comments if you found them. The mural was inaugurated on October 17, 1999, with the design and production of “Cité Création (https://citecreation.fr/ ), with the participation of Hélène Fleury, Marie-Chantal Lachance and Pierre Laforest. Speaking of murals, there are several spread across Quebec. We visited two more, the “Fresque du Petit-Champlain” (102, Rue du Petit-Champlain, was designed by Murale Création, portraying important stages in the history of the Cap-Blanc port workers’ district and its workers, the bombings and landslides suffered in the area, opening on October 14, 2001 and restored in 2016) and the “Fresque BMO de La Capitale Nationale du Québec” (or Fresco BMO of the National Capital of Quebec) (which is in the Haute Ville, in 1037, Rue de La Chevrotière, on a wall of the Marie-Guyart Building, opened on October 30, 2008 and portrays the facade of the Parliament Building with several important characters in honor of the city’s 400 years of political history). Another place you will love to visit in the Lower City is the Musée de la Civilization (or Museum of Civilization), which through its permanent and temporary exhibitions portrays in a very interactive way the history of various civilizations.

Museum of Civilization was founded in 1984 and has a very complete collection, from Egyptian Cat Mummies, to Lion Statues (Terracotta Lion), Indigenous Objects and clothing, Old Phones, climate change to an exhibition dedicated to the Stories about Poison, among several other subjects. Taking advantage of the fact that we were close, when we left the Museum of Civilization, we crossed the street and went to see the Vieux Port (or Old Port), which during the 17th century received vessels with supplies and European crews and is now also a stopping point for ships of cruise! The Old Port extends along the Saint-Laurent River (or Saint Lawrenfce River) and has a marina, a ship terminal, large Bunge grain silos…

In addition, the Old Port is surrounded by beautiful streets, historic buildings (such as the Customs), art galleries and restaurants. Even though it was raining we were able to enjoy the ride and still guarantee a photo with this beautiful umbrella we bought there (J’aime Quebec)!

As I mentioned earlier, the Old Porto region has several restaurants, but there is one that is very special and was recommended by our friend Tim, Café du Monde (or World Coffee), a Parisian style bistro that is successful for over 30 years in the city and gives us a privileged view of the Saint–Laurent River and Porto.

Café du Monde, in addition to a very pleasant atmosphere, offers us excellent service and wonderful cuisine (with a vegetarian option like the one I chose), including desserts like this Red Fruit Pie and Crème Brûllée that were delicious. Still strolling through the Basse Ville, we went for a walk through the Quartier Petit Champlain, which is considered one of the oldest commercial districts in North America, full of shops with charming old architecture, cobbled streets and very narrow, where only pedestrians can walk enjoying the landscape and among these little streets is Rue du Petit-Champlain, which is one of the main streets in the neighborhood, it was built in 1635 and at the end of it has a beautiful Picture Frame so that visitors can take souvenir photos of this charming walk. It is worth remembering that the region went through a phase of abandonment in the late 19th century, only to be restored in the 1970s and that it has been kept in order thanks to the efforts of local traders and artisans. Strolling the Quartier Petit Champlain on Rue do Petit Champlain

Another street that is super charming and very popular with tourists in this region is Rue Cul-de-Sac, which has beautiful umbrellas hanging and guaranteeing beautiful photos, in addition to several restaurants and shops as well. The expression “cul-de-sac” means dead end and the street received its name for having a direct connection with Porto and serving as a passage of goods between this and the city. But in 1854 this part of the port was grounded and the street was no longer dead end, however the name was kept due to its historical importance.

Another place that is also very visited by tourists and is nearby (16, Rue De Buade) is the Cathedral-Basilica of Notre Dame de Quebec, which was built in 1647, suffered two fires (1759 and 1922) but was rebuilt and declared by Unesco as Canada’s National Historic Site in 1989. When we visited the exterior it was under renovation, so I didn’t take a picture, but inside it is very beautiful, from the details in the columns, through the painting on the ceiling, the images of the saints, the stained glass windows, until reaching the Altar, which has a kind of Dome of Golden Arches with Angels and the Risen Jesus. A true work of art!!! Besides transmitting a lot of peace!

Cathedral-Basilica of Notre Dame de Quebec was built where previously it was a Chapel dedicated to Notre Dame de la Recouvrance, founded in 1633 by Samuel de Champlain (the same as the Monument I mentioned above, do you remember?). With the transformation into a cathedral, it was renamed Notre-Dame de La Paix (or Our Lady of Peace), but it still has this image of Notre–Dame de Recouvrance. May she bless us all !!! There have been so many wonderful walks during the day that you must be wondering what Quebec night has in store for us? I can already tell you that there is a lot of excitement! In the walled part you have several options of bars and restaurants, but the outside of the wall also guarantees a lot of fun, such as Rue Grande Allée that concentrates several tourist points of the city (which I will show you later) and several bars, restaurants, clubs and pubs , like Taverne, which is located at 585 Grande Allée Est and is a lively Pub where you can taste the Poutine of Quebec (which they say is the best in Canada and was delicious) to the sound of a lot of good music !!! Opposite the Taverne, at 600 Grande Allée Est is the Nightclub Dagobert, which is one of the most exciting pointa in the city for those who like to danc !!! After enjoying the night in Quebec, let’s go back to day trips because we still have a lot to explore in the city, starting with Citadelle or La Citadelle which is a star shaped fortress that was built between 1820 and 1850 to protect the city from an American invasion and also to serve as a refuge for the British. The Citadelle is in Old Quebec, next to Port Saint-Louis.

Citadelle is considered the most important British fortress in North America and is part of Quebec’s fortifications. It was declared a National Historic Site of Canada in 1980 and a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985. We took the guided tour and it was very interesting to learn a little about 300 years of Canadian military history. Adult tickets for this tour cost CAD$ 18, but have a discount for family, seniors and children combo. The visit lasts about an hour and the guide led us by the Mathieu Guide, which explained, among other things, the meaning of the sign “Je me Souviens” (or “I remember”) as a tribute to the members of the Regiment who were injured or killed in battles!!!

While we waited to start the guided tour, we took the opportunity to visit the Musée Royal 22^ERégiment (or Museum of the 22nd Royal Regiment) that has military artifacts, such as weapons, uniforms, medals and other objects, it is not allowed to photograph in the museum, but it is worth worth going through. During the Citadelle Guided Tour, we had the opportunity to visit several Buildings, among them the Old Hospital, we discovered that Citadelle currently works as a military facility and Secondary Official Residence of the Canadian monarchy and of the Governor General of Canada, we even went through this residences.

On the Citadelle guided tour we also passed by an old Military Prison, and by another Museum, which has the photo of the Goat Batisse, which was a gift from Queen Elizabeth II and is the mascot of the Regiment.

We also went to one of the ends of the star that compose the Citadelle, call of the King’s Bastion, and had a wonderful view of the Château Frontenac and the Saint Laurent River. The visit to Citadelle is really a tour that is worth including in your itinerary. In addition to all the knowledge acquired, it is possible to see cannons and war tanks up close! Next to the Citadelle is one of the accesses to the Plaines d’Abraham (or Plains of Abraham) also called Battlesfield Park because it was the site of the confrontation between the French and the English, culminating in the British victory in 1759, causing Canada to become an English colony. More details of this conflict and other stories are at the Plains of Abraham Museum (which is located at 835 Avenue Wilfrid-Laurier, but also has access inside the park).

In addition to their historical importance, the Plaines d’Abraham are a huge urban park with approximately 103 hectares of plains, woods and valleys. It is a true green haven in the city, widely used for leisure, exercise, also to relax and enjoy nature. It is known as Quebec’s Central Park. Another museum that is located in the Plaines d’Abraham is the Musée National des Beaux-Arts du Québec (or National Museum of Fine Arts of Quebec), which also has access to 179, Grande Allée Ouest (that night street that I mentioned that has various sights, remember?). In addition to the works inside the Museum, there is also an Exhibition in its beautiful Garden.

National Museum of Fine Arts of Quebec is one of the main museums in the city, with a collection of more than 40 thousand works, which keeps Quebec’s artistic memory alive, with works from the 14th century to the present, always valuing local artists . The Museum was opened in 1933, under the name of Musée de La Province de Québec, then had its name changed in 1963 to Musée du Québec, having the current nomenclature in 2002 and is a complex formed by four buildings: the Central Pavilion, which is the visitor center; the Charles Baillairgé Pavilion, which was an old prison before becoming a museum and now houses the collection of modern art; the Gérard Morisset Pavilion, which was the first building of the museum and houses exhibitions of historical art and the Pierre Lassonde Pavilion, which is the most recent building, inaugurated in 2016 and which houses contemporary art. Another tourist spot in the city that draws attention is the Hôtel du Parlement (or Parliament Building), which houses the Assemblée Nationale du Québec (or National Assembly of Quebec) and was built between 1877 to 1886, with a project by the architect Eugène-Étienne Taché, in the architectural style called Second Empire or Napoleon III (which mixes several styles, from the Renaissance, through the shack, to the inclusion of modern elements). In addition to the building, its garden is also a charm.

Parliament Building is made up of eight floors, reaching a height of 171 ft in its front tower, in addition to receiving the addition of four more buildings around it, forming a huge complex. It is worth remembering that it was declared a National Historic Site in 1985 and has about 22 Statues of Historical Characters scattered both on the building’s facade and in the garden, such as the sculptures that are right at the entrance to the building: “The stop in the Forest” and “The Fisherman Nigogo”, both works by the artist Louis-Philippe Hébert.

We did the Guided Tour to the Parliament Building and it was very interesting to know more details of its history, in addition to all the details of its internal architecture. The visit starts in the basement with this beautiful view of the tower.

Continuing our Guided Tour by the National Assembly of Quebec, we passed the Entrance Hall, which has this beautiful Transparent Model that allows us to have an idea of the size of the Parliament complex. The details on the walls also caught our attention and on this floor are the conference and press rooms, in addition to the Staircase that gives access to the Blue and Red Rooms that we visited next.

Red Room is the room of the Legislative Council Chamber or the Legislative Assembly, and from 1886 to 1968 it hosted the work of the Legislative Assembly (which is now in the Blue Room) and currently serves for parliamentary committee meetings and oath ceremonies, among others parliamentary events. Its decoration is beautiful, it really fills your eyes!!!

The Blue Room is the National Assembly Room, the meeting place for deputies to vote and discuss their legislative projects. Initially it was white, then it became green and since 1978 it is blue to facilitate television broadcasting. It also has a very beautiful decor.

We also visited the Library, which has an excellent structure and is open to the public from Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. Its columns and stained glass are beautiful.

At the end of the guided tour, it is worth taking a break to contemplate the Gardens of the National Assembly, where it is possible to find several species of trees and plants that represent the diversity of Quebec’s flora, with annual and perennial plants. In addition, the Assembly has several agreements for the development of horticulture and also beekeeping on site. To further embellish the exterior of the Parliament Building, there is the Tourny Fountain, which opened in 2007 to commemorate the city’s 400th anniversary. It was a gift from the company La Maison Simons. The Fountain is about 22 ft high and 43 water jets. It was built in 1854 and in 1855 it was awarded at the Universal Exhibition in Paris. Its first installation was in Allées de Tourny (an avenue of Bourdeaux in France), hence the origin of the name, however, due to the high cost of maintenance, it was removed and sold, passing through several owners until it was found in an antique shop by Peter Simons (President of La Maison Simons), who had it restored to present Quebec City. The Tourny Fountain has several characters and symbols that refer to the marine world. If you have the opportunity, visit it also at night, because the night lighting makes it even more beautiful.

Speaking of night lighting that makes it even more beautiful, look at the charm of the Parliament Building at night.

Another very interesting place in Quebec is Place D’Youville, a very beautiful Square on Rue Saint-Jean, which is famous for becoming a ski slope in winter, ensuring lots of fun for residents and tourists. In addition to Place D’Youville, Rue Saint-Jean has many other attractions, it is one of the oldest and most lively streets in the city, it has a part that is inside the Walls, part of Old Quebec and another part that is outside. Rue Saint-Jean has many old and historic buildings, has varied shops, bars, restaurants and even the Saint–Jean Portal, which was built in 1693, has undergone several renovations, the current one being 1940. It is worth remembering that the Rue Saint-Jean located in Old Quebec becomes a pedestrian-only street in the summer from 6 pm on weekdays and all day on weekends.

Still on Rue Saint-Jean at number 634, we visited the Erico – Chocolaterie Créative – Musée du Chocolat (or Erico – Creative Chocolate Factory – Chocolate Museum), which is a small but very cozy space that tells the story of chocolate since its emergence with the Maya, passing through all its evolution and how it was conquering the palates until reaching the present time. Continuing our walk along Rue Saint-Jean, at number 400, we come across the Église Saint-Jean-Baptiste de Québec (or Saint-Jean-Baptiste Church of Quebec) ¸ which was built between 1881 and 1884, designed by the architect Joseph Ferdinand Peachy in the style of the Second Empire, after a fire destroyed the previous church.

Saint-Jean-Baptiste Church was declared a Historic Monument in Quebec in 1990, and it is really beautiful, the decoration of the Altar is quite striking and the Church pays homage to Saint John the Baptist, who is the patron saint of French Canadians. In addition to Rue Saint-Jean, another one that is very famous in the city is Avenue Cartier, which is frequented by both tourists and locals, who come to it both in search of luxury boutiques, as well as fun and entertainment, since this avenue concentrates cinema, bars, restaurants and has a very lively nightlife !!! If you have a little time, it is worth taking a walk there!!!

This tour now is for you who, like me, love height and like to have a privileged view from up there. We will visit the Observatoire de la Capitale (or Observatory of the Capital), which gives us a wonderful 360º view of Quebec City and is located on the 31st floor of the Marie–Guyart Building (1037, Rue de la Chevrotière).

And to end our tour of Quebec, we chose a beautiful place: the Revolving Restaurant Ciel! Bistro Bar Tournant, located at the Hotel Le Concorde (1225, Place MontCalm, on the corner with the Grande Allée Est). Since we arrived in the city and we already saw the building of this hotel, my sister and I were delighted with its beauty and curious to know what it was, so we informed ourselves and found out that in this round part there was a revolving restaurant, so we already contacted to to know how it worked and we scheduled to go there before going to the airport to return to Toronto.

Ciel Restaurant! Bistro Bar is on the 28th floor of the Hotel Le Concorde and was opened for the Christmas celebrations of 2014. The atmosphere is very pleasant and the complete tour lasts about an hour and a half, enough time to have a drink, enjoying this incredible view. Worth the visit!!!
